More Than Basketball – Inspiring Video About A 10 Year Old Boy Named Gabe Puthoff

This inspiring video about a 10 year old named Gabe Puthoff is so much more than basketball. As Jimmy V once said, every day you should laugh, think, and cry.

Well, this video took care of all three for me!

Take a look and let us know what you think.

Another few things that I love about this video:

1. His teammates about pulled out their hair after every shot that rimmed out. Make sure to watch the teammates when he shoots the free throws.
2. His teammates celebrated more than he did and fell over each other as they ran down the court.
3. Certainly, not the least, but the way he ran down the court like he’d done it a million times. (Thank you to Brian Williams for pointing that one out.)

And thank you ssams for posting this on our forum! http://www.breakthroughbasketball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&p=6207#p6207

  1. It’s so great to watch a team come together like. Youth sports should be all about having fun, making friends and being proud of what you’ve done at the end of the day. I think this video exemplifies that.

  2. That was a great video. I wish all youth coaches could see this one. I try to explain to my kids it is about spreading the ball around and if the more kids score the better off we will be. Youth basketball should be more about passing the ball around rather than one or two of your best players scoring. I always ask my kids that I coach “what is the difference between a good player and a great player? A great player makes everyone else around him better.
Thanks again for sharing this video.

  3. Thanks, Joe, for posting this video and your comments after. I think I’ll post this on my site too (and credit you for finding it of course).

It says something about the culture that boy is in when not only his team rallies to him like this, but someone takes the trouble to video document it so it can inspire the rest of us.

These are exactly the type of people you like to see working with our youth.

    Nice post again.

  4. A great video. This is what playing a game is all about. To see the excitement on the faces of Gabe s teammates after he scored his basket is priceless. I hope parents of these young athletes have watched this video and realize how much fun these kids are having. Support your children, allow them to enjoy their activity, but no pressure. Remember it is only a game.

  5. Fantastic video, showing the team bond that exists. Its great to have it on film. So cool, calm and collected! I love it

  6. That’s what junior sports is all about. Shame there are not enough coaches with those sentiments out there
