Block, Interleaving and random practice

Hoping you would be able to address the following. When teaching the fundamental skills needed to play the game how do the different methods block, interleaving and random training stack up to get players ready to tackle the demands of games.

Block is generally used to introduce a skill, refine a skill, and change a technique.
Random practice helps with retention, boredom,.
Small sided games work on everything... decision making, skills, etc and transfer well to games.
Bottom line is all these types of drills (tools) have their pros and cons. As a coach you mix in these tools to develop your players. Each situation can call for a different tool.
