Quick Hitter Offense: K Series

Check out the K Series for some quick hitter players from Keith Haske's Uptempo System - Pressure Defense, Pressure Offense. This play series threatens the defense with constant pressure via dribble handoffs and actions off the ball. The result of the dribble drive produces open looks for your team near the basket and on the perimeter. If the post defense slides over to stop the dribble drive, your post players are open for easy baskets. Due to the proper spacing, if the defense collapses to clog the lane, your perimeter players have wide open looks. Also, the three play variations make you unpredictable. The defense can’t premeditate the offensive play. It’s difficult to predict the location of the dribble handoff. Additionally, actions away from the ball keep the defense honest. So they have to play you straight up. If they don’t, it’s easy for your players to make the defense pay. These plays are also great for team morale. They get all of your players involved. When all of your players get touches, it keeps them motivated to play hard, maintain a positive attitude, make the extra pass, and play for each other.
K2 – In the option called K2, the point guard will start by attacking the lane. If he is cut off, he will run a dribble handoff with the 2. While this is happening, the 4 man will cut from the left elbow to the right low block.
Frame 1
The 2 will take the dribble handoff from the 1 and look to get into the center of the paint. He will have the option to shot a lay-up or look to pass down low to the 5 and 4 men who are set up on each low block.
Frame 2
K3 – In the option called K3, the point guard will once again start by attacking the lane. While this is happening, the 4 will screen for the 3 man who will cut hard and run a dribble handoff with the 1.
Frame 3
Once the 4 has set a screen, the 5 man will set a back pick for the 4 who will cut to the low block. The 3 man should look to attack the basket or dish the ball off to the 4.
Frame 4
K4 – In this option, your point guard will run a dribble handoff with your 4 man. The 4 will cut hard off of the 1 and look to use the open lane to get all the way to the basket. If he is cut off by the right wing defender, he should look to kick the ball out to the two. If he is topped in the lane by the low block defender, he should have an open pass to the 5.
Frame 5
Coaching Tip: Attack to score - When your players come off the dribble drive, teach them to attack to score. That way, if there is an open lane, they can simply take it.  This also drags the help defense further out of position to stop you. And this creates open shots for your other players.  If the defense sees that the dribble penetrator is easing up, they can stay closer to their man.

It will work against both. The plays are slash and screen plays. In a man that's a lot of movement, which will create space. In a zone the defense will pinch to cover, leaving at least two areas vulnerable at a time depending on the skill of the players.
