Offense vs 1-2-2 & 3-2 Zones

I coach 7th Grade basketball, there are only 5 teams in our league and they all play this same zone. I taught my kids to pass & cut, and let them know to beat the zone we got to get the ball to the middle. But I could use a couple of more plays to run against this defense, and 1 or 2 inbounds plays from the sideline.

I'm not a big play guy, simply because it doesn't take long for the other team to figure it out. I like running a zone offense against a zone defense because the kids know where to go and what they are supposed to look for on openings (gaps in zone). As Coach Sar says, "put 'em where they ain't" and this is a great strategy against zones.

The key against any zone is to get the defense moving and be patient, there's no shot clock. We run a 1-3-1 against 2-3 and 3-2 zones and it works well. We have a point and two wings, 1 on elbow and 1 runs short corner to short corner following the ball. You can also put one of your better ball handlers at the 5 position on elbow to create more dynamics in the middle. As you move the ball opportunities become available with your elbow, short corner, and weak side guys. Google Tom Izzo 1-3-1 offense, he has a few plays there. It's set up more for a 2-3, but it's worked for us against 3-2's.

On in bounds plays, I'm assuming the smart teams will set up in a 2-3 bringing their point down to cover the middle. It wouldn't make sense to stay in a 3-2 to cover in bounds plays under the basket. There are several in bounds plays against 2-3 zone out on the net.
