Sounds like you're on the right track. One thought that comes to mind is finding a good coach for some private one on one sessions. They can also help with the "tipping over" thing you're talking about. I watched my son go from a decent player to a player that is needed on the court now. His private sessions made all the difference. The coach tweaked his game and gave him specific things to practice. He worked on his weak hand a lot and now in games my son uses his weak hand to score.
Another thought is getting some playing time this spring/summer in some type of league. The more playing time you get now, you'll hit the ground running when tryouts come around.
