Hello I have 40 kids, 8 are girls and the rest boys. They play each other in a game but the girls never get the ball. Can I put all the girls on one team? Or do I keep them separate?
Thanks
Lori

Hi Lori,
Can you tell us how you have these teams designated? Is this a league... after school intramurals or??
Are these games with refs and a timed situation?

We are in a YMCA setting. I put two girls on each team but they still aren't getting the ball. There just in the stage of being uncomfortable with guys. When we stand in a hudle and there two feet away from the boys......... I'm tring to make all the teams equal and have good games. Any ideas?

Can you make your own rules regarding who scores?
One of the things I did in summer camps were to have short games to 6--- EVERYONE had to score a basket before anyone could make the final shot.
You would be surprised about how hard kids worked to get the weaker player a good shot.
Just an idea.

Curious what age group? Also wondering if you're the league director or a coach?
In our Y, they separate boys/girls in 3rd grade. Not sure I completely agree with that, I had two amazing girls on my team in 2nd grade that probably would be great additions on our current 5th grade team, but it is what it is.
One option is having a team pass it at least 5 times before shooting or tell them everyone has to touch the ball at least once before taking a shot. Tough to do if you're the league admin, easier if you're the coach of the team.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm a youth director at a YMCA for 4-6 grade girls and boys basketball. I like the idea of everyone touching it before they shoot. Thanks for the advice!
