out door balls

Forum » General » out door balls
which spalding ball would be suitable for outdoor play? and would any leather ball (composite or real) wear out under outdoor conditions (mostly concrete) and get all "mushy"?
I always bought the indoor/outdoor composite ball for my son and daughter. These balls are common at sporting goods stores or WalMart, usually they are around $25. THese balls will wear over time so as soon as the "pebbled" finish and the groove channels wear.....get a new one!!

Never use "game ball" leather basketballs outside.
I'm sure you know 28.5" is girl's size, 29.5" for boys
thanks, but do outdoor balls wear the same way?
yes, even though they are made of tough composite material, outdoor balls take a beating because of the grit and coarseness of asphalt but anything is better than those rubber balls that they give away at carnivals or basketball camps........
:) Right, thanks, but how do you have the ... confidence and non-pityness... to just throw away a ball that is still useable? :) I know it is for a reason but... I personally couldn't bear it.

But thanks for your advice though... I'll still stick with the indoor/ outdoor balls... since the outdoor balls would wear out eventually anyway.
Oh yeah... what Spalding ball should I buy? I'm quite interested in the NeverFlat and the Infusion3 technology that Spalding is using. Any ideas?
I don't know if my age helps, but I'm only just 13 ( Maybe you thought me a parent :|)
I'm not sure exactly what time of Spalding you should get. Infusion is pretty popular.

As for parting with an old ball....ya just gotta do it every 2 years or so....outdoor pounding does a number on the surface texture. Believe me, playing with a worn ball affects your game. If the ball looses it pebbled finish and channels then you lose your ball grip which affects passing, catching, shooting and your handles.

Maybe Santa will get you a new one in 5 days!!

G'day mate!!!
Since you said this, I might as just go to the shops and buy one which I think would be suitable there... or I could just tell my dad to buy me one when he drives past the mall on the way home...
I don't know if you realised, but there are now 2 versions of Zi/O Excel. One is a cheap Made in China one. The other is the Made in Thailand one. You know the difference?
Glanden,

Listen to Coach A.... believe me a worn ball will mess up your shot AND your ball handling abilities.. it gets worn down and smooth... pretty hard to control.

Try to find a good indoor / outdoor ball, one YOU feel comfortable with.... thats the only one that counts. I'm sure you were a good boy this year and Santa will get you one ...
IF... you drop the hint :-) Like hey Dad... my basketball is really worn out now, makes it really hard to shoot and dribble.

Merry Christmas

Ken
Young man: I can speak to the balls created here in China, if its a spalding that is a good ball. However, be aware of knock offs, those are balls that say they are spalding but are not. Further, if you check the balls made in the NBA, many of them are also made in China. As Coach A says, the rubber ones are of little use find a good indoor outdoor ball and don't be afraid to throw it away when its all used up...Or another option is if you have a little brother or sister, "hand me downs" are a part of life I know..I used more used skates and hockey equipment handed down to me by my older brothers. Good luck young man..
No...have no idea what difference is but I would go with the better of the better of the two...........not the one made in China if it's cheap...try the one made in Thailand.

Merry Christmas!!!
Talk to people at the sporting goods stores... of course I am sure they will point you in the direction of the more expensive ball... but IF you were to buy the cheaper ball and it wears out faster you are no further ahead than you are now.
You get what you pay for and since you are going to try and get your dad to pay for it.. :-)

cool, thanks guys, I'll tell you what I bought, but it wouldn't be soon, though, because my dad just told me that he will be going overseas for 2 months for a business conference... but i was thinking fo zi/o excel though, or infusion outdoor, or neverflat...
