I'm needing exact teaching footwork for using a Pro Hop.
I've viewed a number of suggested video's and I've seen 3 different kinds
of footwork used. I'm sorry but what I thought is one of the 3 different ways
I've seen on video but don't want to teach it incorrectly!
If you have footage, dvd recommendation, youtube ect... I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for your time!

See 17:15 to 20:10 minute mark of this video for an example of the 1 foot pro hop (they call it the Sweep and Twist):

Coach I greatly appreciate your response and the pro hop shown is one of the ways I've seen it done.
My problem is the way it's taught on the viseo is a one, two step into a 2 foot jump stop, which is legal but what I thought was illegal is a pivot or step after that.
If anyone could give me their best step by step explaination of teaching the Pro Hop I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for your time!

Read the comments at the bottom of this article. Joe explains the rules about the jump stop. It all depends on when you pick up the ball

I'll just repost the comments:
this has given me some headaches because I've actually gotten different information from referees on this topic, or at least I interpreted it as different info.
By studying the rulebook and situations, I think I finally came to a better understanding. Here is my interpretation.
It doesn't matter how high you jump or whether it is a quick stop or jump stop.
Whether it is a travel or not, depends on WHEN YOU TERMINATE THE DRIBBLE.
So, if you do this sequence.
1. Jump
2. Pick up the ball or terminate the dribble after you jump.
3. Land on both feet at the same time.
You can choose either foot for your pivot foot.
If you...
1. Pick up the ball or terminate the dribble.
2. Jump after you terminate the dribble.
3. Land on both feet at the same time.
If you pivot, this will be a traveling violation. However, you can jump to shoot or pass.
I've seen what looked like the exact same move in which the player jumps, lands on both feet, and pivots called a travel one possession and allowed the next possession. I never understood why.
However, what I didn't realize until now, the reason that it was called a travel is that they picked the ball up a split second earlier.

I usually try to differentiate between quick stops and jump stops.
A quick stop is where you don't really jump. You just try to stop as quickly as possible with both feet hitting the floor at the same time. I have never seen a referee call a traveling violation when a player quick stops and pivots properly.
A jump stop is when you literally jump before you land on both feet at the same time. I have seen mixed calls on this when a player jump stops then pivots.

When I taught this type of pro hop, I try to teach a pound dribble that is timed with the lateral jump.
However, that's not always practical in a game-like situation. So maybe you teach it both ways? Teach players that you can pivot one way. the other way, you can not.
Just a thought.

I have seen more and more refs call this a travel because they don't believe you can land both feet at the same time??
I used to see some players jump stop and then take another step and a half...... then I started complaing that it was a travel. We startd to get the calls.
Joe , you have given us some great info here... I wish the refs would just make the calls consistent, that way the coaches can teach it correctly and the players can execute it correc tly. JMO
I get enough headaches Joe, makes me glad that I am retried from the game LOL
