Trouble with passes

Forum » Basketball Offense » Trouble with passes
I coach a grade 7/8 boys team and we are having trouble with our passes being intercepted. I am trying to get them to go to the pass but it doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions?
Thanks
No dribbling allowed drills whether it's a scrimmage or a mini-drill/game. Make them competitive, losers have consequences.

-10 good passes, 3 v 3 half-court. Offense has to make 10 good passes, defense is aggressive trying to steal ball and deflect passes. First team to complete 10 passes is winner, losing teams do 10 burpees.

-If you scrimmage, no passes allowed for the first 5 minutes.

Both of those should make the players become more aggressive on offense. In order to receive a pass you have to get open and come to the ball. You'll see players huck up bad passes because the defense is putting on pressure, stop and correct that.

Make it harder in practice than it is in a game, and then you'll see improvement in the game.
great ideas! Thanks! We have tried scrimmaging without dribbling before but never thought to make a game of good passes. My guys do hate to do burpees!
All good ideas. Here are a couple more ideas...

You can do 3 on 2 no dribble type of drills to increase the passing frequency.

You can also do the traditional 3 on 2, 2 on 1 drill with NO dribble.
Couldn't agree more with the no dribble scrimmaging. I use a progression with my teams. First we are stationary in perimeter spots in a shell drill. This works our passing against pressure (since it's shell, the defense cannot steal the perimeter passes when we're stationary) Then I add in passing and cutting, still no dribbling. After a little bit of this, if I'm satisfied with the performance, I'll add in dribbling, but they are limited to 4 dribbles per touch.

It's a great offense/defense progression and it can be done in a controlled setting, stoppng for corrections.

I also like to play 2 vs 1 stationary pickle in the middle. This helps a lot with footwork and ball fakes.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try them out and let you know how they go!
There are two things that I will add...

1 The person receiving the pass must ask for it with the outside hand...meet the pass

2. One way to anticipate when the person with the ball is going to pass it is.... He brings his other hand to the ball.
