How Can I Become More of a Consistent Player

I made my high school basketball team, but I am not sure that I have that starting position yet. What can I do to get that starting position? What can I do to become a more consistent offensive player? I find that my shots aren't always consistent, I think the reason for this is because sometimes i don't touch a basketball for 5 days, but I don't think my shots should be so affected that out of 5 shots I only make 1. Is there anything I can do to become more of a consistent basketball player. Please keep in mind that I am a focused high school student who takes his work very serious, and doesn't get a chance to play basketball as much as possible. Thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
Inconsistency of your play mirrors the inconsistency of your practice. There is no way around that.
Amen to that last post Jef.
IF you want to be consistent... you have to practice... every day. Find the time to work on your game. There is no short cut to becoming a good shooter, it takes a lot of practice. If you don't, well, you know the answer already. I have a saying.... " IF you keep doing what you're doing, you will keep getting what you're getting! "
You have to decide what is important to you and then make a plan, write down some goals and how you are going to achieve them. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

hello, sir...

i do not know if i am in a position to advise you on how to become a more consistent player but what i know is a consistent player always does his/her role in the team, sets goals for himself and for the team, assesses his/her performance before and after the game and perhaps you have to BELIEVE and have FAITH.
