Normally I would say - Do whatever works for you..... but if it was me planning a practice I would do them all every day... AFTER some form shooting. FIVE 3s!!! Great job..... I loved my players that couild knock down the 3 ball...... since we didn't have any real post players.
Keep after it, it sounds like you are on the way back!
No, I didn't see that movie but from the little I have read its a great story about what it takes to be successful.

This is an excerpt from an article written by Don Kelbick on how he likes to organize workouts.
"I usually categorize the workouts when we have a regular workout. All workouts contain shot repetitions, footwork, conditioning and ball handling. How we work on those is dependent on the type of workout. I try to vary them so the players don’t get bored or stale. The categories are repetition, where we just concentrate on a high volume of shots; fast break, where we run up the floor and simulate skills coming off break options; screens, where we concentrate on reading and coming off all types of screens (except ball screens) and position, where we work on things specific to the players position, such as getting open on the wing, ball screens, post ups, pop outs, etc. This is also when we take pieces of his offense and his role during the season and try to incorporate them into drills."

Ok sweet thing coach thats very handy .
Coach Sar we done testing at my high school today with a profressinal company . Here where my results . Tell me what you think compared to the div1 / nba players
Height: 191cm
Weight: 83kg
Agility test: 5.99sec ( You start at the baseline, sprint about 5 meters turn the corner sprint to the top of the key , weave through the defensive player then slide 5 meters down , drop step and sprint to the baseline . I got the quickest time .
Suicide:26.9 sec . Dude said that that was a pretty quick time all of the top players get around that and i definently could have improved it because i slipped near the end .
Vertical . 28inch . fairly weak
20 meter sprint : 3.15 sec (not very good , guy reckons i can get it down to 2.50 just by improving technique
And we done a long distance test( my bread and better) i dominated that . The test finished at level 23 , i got 21
What do you think . Consider that i rarely train for this things and can imrpove by heaps .

This is what I hear from a lot of the talk show hosts (some are x football players) regarding the COMBINE for football players...... "While they can do a lot of these things well.... CAN THEY PLAY FOOTBALL?" So I take a lot of these things with a grain of salt.
Considering you are just coming back from some injuries I would say that you did pretty well. As for the "suicides" which we call LINES now.... God forbid anybody would drop dead doing this.... explain that one to the judge. Coach Sar, what were you doing when that boy dropped dead.... ummm - suicides your honor. GUILTY!! Have to be PC today ya know. :-)
Anyway, our kids did this too... and IF they didn't come in under 28 seconds they did it again. Guard / forward types.... most post players we timed with an hour glass. Basektball is all about starting and stopping, its not a marathon... as for me as a coach... I could care less what your 1 mile time might be... as long as you could start and stop and start again quickly... and can you PLAY. You could have an Olympic sprinter there and if he cant play, what good is that speed. Do things that are specific to your sport... work on your jumping abiltiies... but if you are sound fundamentally and can shoot the ball.. they will find a place for you.... oh yea, and be a SHUT DOWN DEFENDER and a great TEAM DEFENSIVE PLAYER. Of course, this is just my opinion of this.....
It seems like you do a lot of things that relate to the game very well.. keep up the good work... work on your handles.... see the floor well.... shooting.... alot of shooting - Good luck, I hope you get the chance to realize your dream.

To add to Coach Sars' words, Kevin Durant tested as the 2nd WORST at the NBA pre-draft tests. It included vertical jump, bench, agility tests, and some other things.
It certainly helps to have good physical skills, but they are often hyped up too much.
I can't imagine how Larry Bird would have done at those tests.

hahahah Nice one coach Sar , I love your veiw on suicides lol . And thanks Joe i wouldn't of guessed those results for kevin durant . What im asking here is that are my times/results up their with some of the top players . i know that you could have the best atheletic ability but if u cant play you just cant play but Dude i can play !!! Really right now its about improving my strength, my jumpshot(which is getting better i feel it) my handles and my explosiveness . But the main question is am i up their athletic wise
3/12/2010 14:02
IF you can play... the rest you can improve upon.... all it takes is some determination and hard work.... it sounds like you have that already. I'm holding you to your word..... I (maybe all the coaches here) better be getting some front row seats to your games!!! Otherwise you will be in deep sand! :-)
I had a bad experience on the floor my second year at the high school I worked at..... a very bad memory for me... I will never forget that moment.
So, I was always aware of what we were doing.... ok. almost always.

You have to be dedicated and put in the time...plain and simple.
Try to play every day and shooting 300 to 400 shots a day is not unrealistic. Offseason ball is so important. As the saying goes, "Winter is the time to play basketball, summer is the time to get better in basketball". Spring and summer leagues, AAU, camps and clinics are so important in basketball development. If you really want to be the best that you can be then play hoop year round...not just fall and winter.
I always tell my players that everybody has a basketball odometer...just like in a car. It measures hours of basketball exposure instead of miles. The reason some players are better than others is not so much that they are faster, stronger, older or taller....it's usually because of the hoop time that is on their basketball odometer. Shooting in your driveway, pick up games at the park, school teams, games, practices, clinics, AAU even watching games all add hours to your odometer...increasing your experience and knowledge of the game. Middle school kids may have 100's of hours on their odometer, college and pros...1,000's.
You have to put in the time, you have to put in the hard work.
Remember one thing......when you're done practicing by yourself....you feel like you're tired....you think you had a good workout....just think about this....while you are going back inside your house and resting....there is somebody out there your age....still practicing.......and one day....you may play against that kid...and ...given equal abilities.....he will beat you!! So get back out there and practice even more!!\
This helped me alot because he told me what i have to do everyday to a reach a top level what do you think of this coach and can you add anything .

Not much to add to that..... find a partner to work out with... makes it easier and more fun. Pick out a role model... someone at your position that is an all star.... not some tattoed guy from head to foot with a bad attitude...... Allen Iverson, a great talent... does NOT make his teammates better, he is all about him.
Emulate your game after a GOOD role model and then get out and work at it. Don't forget to step back every once in awhile.... just to renew your juices - to relax and let your body heal... and just have a bit of fun.
Some colleges look at other things that you have done, not just your ball playing..are you solid academically. are you a good citizen, willing to help, are you involved in anything else around the school. Unless you are a Blue Chipper, which in that case they look past a lot of things.
Plan your time wisely so you can be a well rounded person....we all need a Plan B. Good luck.

spoke with my rep coach the other day and he goes im a rookie it doesn't look like i'll get alot of time this year . that really upset me and i was in my room all night long just thinking about it . My school coach reckons im the best player on the team yet this coach give me 4-5 min runs and i dont want that . im so pissed and just want to prove him wrong . he goes to me to not get ahead of myself to not think im something that im not . im very annoyed and upset im just gonna work hard and prove him wrong
3/16/2010 20:58
Thats the right idea... work hard and prove him wrong, we as coaches have been wrong before. Does that coach have an assistant? IF he does, ask him what areas he thinks that you need to improve upon.
Just let me run this by you from a coaches standpoint..... we are always going to give the older guys the first shot..... but we all want to win... and if some younger kid is better, we will find time for him, believe me, thats the way it works. IF you are good enough, you will force him to find more playing time for you.
One step at a time.... you took the first one... you are coming off the bench and getting some time.... are you the first player off the bench? The second step is becoming the first sub off the bench.... the third step is to increase your playing time.
Capish?

No im not the first player off the bench , and i hear what your saying. my school coach wants me to go play in a youth league( the same sort of league compettion wise but smaller bodys and faster game) he reckons i have to be getting 30-40 mins a game . i really do want to do that but season is in 3 days and i dont want to look like im running away from my problems .

Tough call... can you do both?

Nah i wouldn't be able , the trainings and games will clash there is no way possible . I'm gonna work hard and hopefully mid way through the season i can be in the starting 5 . I know i can do it coach . i'm exactly what our team needs and thats a scorer, as soon as my jumpshot becomes consistent ( god knows when thats gonna happen) then i think i'll will find myself getting more minutes.
So coach if i give you my weekly schedule , would you help me plan out a good workout schedule . Thanks for the help

Why don't you run it past all of us and lets see what we can come up with...... there are a lot of good coaches here.
Let us know what your school schedule is also. How much time you need for homework etc.
