You always had a way with words Mac! :-)
We did the 1&1 thing also... of course there was a "consequence" ... there was one time in practice we would shoot 5 in a row just to help them find that groove.
We had several kids come in early during summers and shoot 1,000 a day.... 10 in a row and then start over. Believe me, they had a great stroke during the season because of the muscle memory thing.
Good luck and keep on working mamba!

If you hurt your hil I wouldn't be doing situps. That includes your hip flexor muscles. Everyone here has given you the right advice....scheck with doctor, rest-you occured the injury from over training, stay in the game mentally.
More than anything start envisioning yourself healed and performing at your highest level. This is an key element to recovery. It has been scientifically proven.

Coach Sar / update - My hip has fully recoverd but would you believe i sprained my left wrist(im a rh hand shooter) that same day i got the ok to start training . I cant begin to explain to you how fustrated i am . I trained a bit with the team today , done some shooting drills and i was just off and have lost game fitness . I sat out rest of training cuz the wrist was playing up .... im really angry now + im still trying to balance studies . This guy has been training with us and he is definently a high major div 1 talent he can ball but instead he left his junior college and is looking for a pro contract in europe and i know i can get as good as him i know it but i got so long to go . Main line is i got 3 weeks until preseason tournament and 5 weeks until season begins and i gots to get back in game shape ....... im out takecare coach

Talk about bad luck! But look at it this way... anything that does not kill us only tends to make us stronger. Your character is being tested.. will you feel sorry for yourself or will you suck it up and make yourself better?
Start doing somethings that will help you get in physical shape... as long as your doctor has given you the all clear.. there are a lot of things that you can do.... footwork drills, jumping lines, running lines etc. You can work on your dribbling skills with your good hand... become the best dribbler with your good hand as possible.. no sense in sitting back doing nothing.
Work on form shooting, free throws shooting with one hand - you can still use the guide hand, that shouldn't hurt that wrist.
I was a late bloomer... never had a jumper ... all of a sudden I'm playing ball with some friends and a guy I went to grammar school with... and I take this jump shot.. ONE HANDED ....no guide hand... don't ask me how... it just happened... btw, I was 16 then, way behind you and Ben. My friend asked me when I got a jumper and I said just now. :-)
So, don't sit back and do nothing... do whatever you can that doesn't involve your left wrist. Find out what kind of rehab you can do and get after it. Good luck and hang in there.
I'm from Illinois

Mamba: Adversity can do one of two things, it can beat you down and cause you to quit or it can only make you stronger. Of course you are angry, of course you are frustrated its human nature. Now take all that anger and frustration and turn it into a positive spin put those unwanted emotions towards your studies and come back next year with a vengeance.
this kid thats working out with you, can you put him in contact with me, the pro mens league here is always looking for good import players. Thanks Coach Mac

Coach Mac is absolutely right. You can either decide to make this a road block or a stepping stone. Makes me think of the new book by Lebron James, Shooting Stars. He talks about all the adversity he went through as a kid. Read that and I promise you will see your situation as small.

Hey Coach Sar and all other coaches on this forum .
I've fully recoverd and yesterday i scrimmiged with the team at training . I done some very good things and some not so good .
Question 1 . Do you suggest jumping of a cliff or off a bridge lol cuz my jumpshot is irritating the living hell out of me . I practice it more than anybody and its still dont feel effortless . I cant get my form right all of a sudden cause i've been trying to shoot like ray allen and get as much height as possible on my j so when i shoot 3s im finding it real hard .I DO NOT KNOW WHAT MORE I CAN DO .. i just want to click . everything else is fine except my jumper . i want to be able to hit 3s effortlessely
what can i do ??????????????????????

This is very simple - FORGET ABOUT shooting like Ray Allen, you are NOT Ray and never will be. How about being the best play YOU can be? You are screwing yourself up by trying to be someone you're not.
Go back to the basics...do some form shooting against the wall... then go out and do some BEEF check to make sure the form is correct.... the start shooting.. in close at first and then work your way back..... slowly at first and then work up to game speed.
Don't worry about jumping... Mac will push you LOL Just kidding of course.
NOW, GET OUT THERE AND START WORKING ON YOUR SHOT AGAIN...... GO BACK TO YOUR OLD TECHNIQUE.
Good luck.

Hey coach just came back from training session and i really struggled through the scrimmige . Im just feeling a bit sluggish ... not knowing my postions on the court . ive forgotten most of the plays cuz i was out and i just feel like im a step behind it all . I'm real down on confidence now and the big pre season tournament is this weekend . To rub salt in the wound , i came of a screen had an open 17 foot jumper and didnt even hit the ring and what really made it worse was looking at coach slamming his bottle against the wall . All these players are 5-6 yrs older than i am and i guess they have had the experince of dealing with all this sort of stuff . Ive just come back from a hip injury and a wrist sprain out for 8 weeks and im just angry it happend so close to the season cuz before it all, it was really clicking for me and now im looking at a season on the back end of the bench if i cant get it right . My school coach told me today that im starting to look like a div 1 prospect my jumpshot its starting to come together but then i go on my rep team and just stuff it up . I was nearly on tears on the sidelines cause really do want it bad enough and i know im better than what im showing . I'm just not used to a whole lot of structure i guess

OK, First thing, get back to believing in yourself..... there isn't one player that doesn't go thru slumps rom time to time.... forget about it... go out and work on your game. Remember, you have been off awhile... its going to take you a little time to get your game back.... and you are the "KID" playing with the adults, do don't be so hard on yourself.
Practice and playing is the only thing that is going to get you out of this slump so get after it. Work extra hard on DEFENSE.. all that takes is some heart.... let the shots come to you. You are lucky they let you shoot LOL
I had a kid come from Yugoslavia, a senior..... transfered in his last year..... first week of practice he never shot the ball except in drills. I stopped practice one day and asked him why he wasn't taking the open shots. He told me that in his country he played with older guys and they didn't let him shoot unless it was on break away lay ups. I told him - YOU ARE IN AMERICA NOW, SHOOT THE DARN BALL..... he said to all of us... I LOVE AMERICA! :-)
Relax and have fun.

Its 6.40pm here and tomorrow is the big preseason tournament . I'm going to be coming of the bench and also wont get alot of time cause coach already told me he will try take it easy on me and a couple other players because we just got back from injury . So what tips/mental approach should i take in to the game . like i said in my previous post i have come of a bad team training session and am down on confidence and im guessing my teammates would be down on confidence on me too . Also what should i do to calm nervous and also what pre game meals
thanks coach your support/comments mean alot and no matter how many setbacks come my way i'll just pick myself up and keep on going . “If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down.”

Coming off the bench takes a special type of player.... so don't try to do too much. First of all - play GREAT DEFENSE! That will help you to relax...... handle the ball well - keep your game simple and solid. You need to relax a little bit, have confidence in yourself. IF you don't look confident you can bet your teammates won't have confidence in you either.
When guys came off the bench for me these are the things I wanted them to do.
- Play great D
- Handle the ball well / NO turnovers
- Don't shoot the ball the first time you touch it unless its a lay up - get into the flow of the game first.
Eat early enough so you don't have a big meal laying in your stomach.... I always wanted to be a little hungry, I didn't want something heavy before a game. As for nerves... that just means you care.... when you warm up with the team... work hard, get a good sweat going... and then relax.... everyone makes mistakes... watch the Pros... they make plently.

Hey coach
Played the first 2 games of the tourney today . I didn't suit up for the first game because coach told me i've been away for awhile and i had forgotten most of the plays, sitting on the bench again pissed me off . I constantly had my teammates come up to me during the warmups telling me i should be out their and all that . Second game i did suit up and played 7mins . I scored 5pts, had 2 off reb and a defensive reb and 1 turnover. I'm pretty sure when season kicks in i'll be getting some very good minutes i guess i just have to get some mins under my legs and remember all the plays again . I was nervous as hell when i got out on the court today and i could of ended up with 10pts with all the opportunitys i had but was to nervous/scared i guess to take them . Anyways i got 2 more games tomorrow so which me luck coach and hopefully i get out on the court a little more .

Good luck and relax.... not so sure you have forgotten anything... its more about relaxing and doing your best. The more playing time you get the better you will be. As YOU get more confident so will your coach... play Defense like it was the last minute of the NBA championship and let the offense come to you.
Be patient with the coach, he hasn't seen you play in awhile.. you will have to "convince" him again! :-)
