Ekam, Amen to being Mentally tough.... thats a big part of any sport.

Mamba - as for the side spin, here's another thought - as you work on your form and are shooting - your NON shooting hand - that THUMB should be pointing directly back towards your head.
What's up Coach .

Today was possibly the greatest day in my life lol .

I Had a workout with 20 other players infront of Washington State assistant coach Ben Johnson and St. Louis assistant coach Chris Harriman.

I was nervous as hell but just went out there and did my thing . It was tough, Most of the players where a year older and a bunch of them where
Division 1 graduates and current division 1 players( They where just having a run).

I matched up on the guy who i showed you the video of earlier in the year on youtube when he scored 32 . I couldn't believe my eyes, i was ready to go Toe to Toe with Division 1 Lol . Anyways this guy was good , he was ranked the number 59 shooting guard in the class of 2010 . He had it all but i held my own for sure and scored about 6-10 pts on him .

There was also another guy there who just finished at Gardner Webb . He was a 4 yr starter , 6'10 .

Now from what i saw today i think that with out a doubt i can play division 1 . I was able to match it with this guy most of the times and i played great D .
Problem is though i can never play like that in the game . I just felt like a diffrent player out there and i'm never able to do stuff like that in the game you know .

I think the coaches where more intrested in a foward/center type but i'll get some feedback tomorrow ....

P.s I need hops but i got the speed lol
From all the posts you have made... it seems like you are worried too much about how you are going to look in front of other people... I was pretty animated coach.... I could care less what they thought of me. I was told by one of my players to be myself...... thats what I did and thats what YOU should do.

Just go out and play your game and have some FUN!

Congratulations on playing well!
My main man , Coach Sar what's happening?

I see you've got yourself a nice looking photo now lol .

I've gone out and gotten myself a shooting coach who's working with me about 3 times a week . The errors his correcting in my shot are
1. Releasing the ball on the way down , 2. Tilting my head to the left as i shoot , 3. Bringing the ball too far behind the side of my head as i shoot .

Seeing that the offseason is about 3 games out he wants me to stop shooting the ball anywhere outside of 15 feet .
He wants me to go back to the basics and for now he wants me to start shooting the ball the line of my eye so i dont
force myself to tilt my head to the side . Once i have that down pat then i can start bringing the ball up higher

Whats are your thoughts on this?
Not much Mamba... going to Hawaii next week, so you are on your own LOL

Don't be a smart A! LOL .... at least you cant see the broom! :-)

See, thats the problem about helping people with their shot when you cant see them.... We always talked about a SHOOTING WINDOW as you bring the ball up... IF you had the ball in front of your face your elbow had to be too far out. Thats where the one handed BEEF check comes in handy. The shooting window presents itself as you bring the ball up.... IF you try this ( even without the ball ) you will see what I mean... the ball is slightly above your eye and your guide hand is on the ball.... there is a window there.

First thing... good idea about shooting close to the basket... that way you can concentrate on your form. It will be hard to get some lift and arc in your shot shooting from your eye... but it seems like he has a plan to rebuild your shot basics... so thats a good thing. Good luck and let us know how it going.
Coach Sar , What's been happening? Enjoying Hawaii?

My shot is going good, releasing from a lower point is much more easier and I've got unlimited range on my Jumper now
and can hit them consistently from the NBA line now . Arc isn't a problem , it's actually better than it used to be now that
i release the ball on the way up instead of on the way down ( Ray Allen style lol) . I'll keep you updated on that .

Been a big week here, Season one game from being over and I've learnt so much about the game of basketball and even though
i didn't get much time i learnt plenty of stuff from the college guys and experienced guys on the team . The guy i play behind
on my U/20 side ( which is a high quality junior competition) just signed with Cal Poly Mustangs, Div 1 . His 6-7 , athletic , runs
the floor and shoots the ball well with great range. He's a year older then I'm so I've got some time to keep working Here's his vid if you want to check it out http://www.youtube.com/user/ksb0778#p/u/4/egshS1y5qa0

The kid who went to New creations prep school this year also signed but with Charleston - a div 2 school in West Virginia . We went to the same high school but his two years
older than I'm .

And I've got another two friends who signed with schools , One signed with the no.2 JUCO in the country( This is his video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSJM1YunGmYand ) the other with a school in Atlanta but not sure which school it is yet .

So I'm kind of Jealous LOL but good on em ........ All i can do is keep working hard , stay humble and never give up . The goal at the end of the day is to play Pro ball

Talk soon
Just got home and Hawaii was great... its a Paradise to say the least.

Glad to hear that your shot is getting better..... its always good to play with better competition, it makes you work harder and will only make your game better. Their accomplishments will only get you to make lofty goals..............Keep up the good work.
Hi Coach,

During the later stages of last season i started playing as a point guard and felt very comfortable in that position .

Now i want to make that my permanent position because i feel like if i'm going to excel as a basketball player and if i'm going
to reach the highest level that i can I'll have to play as a point guard because i don't have the jumping ability or the height to play as a
shooting guard .

I just need some advice from you on how i can be a great point guard , any certain drills i can do for my passing etc

Also because I'm 6'3 at the HS level here in Australia I'm always seen as a 2 or 3 man and when i go to prep school this december i want to play the point
and i want the coach too see me as a point guard so i need your help .

Take care
There are a lot of drills and suggestions on this site - look on the left side here.

These are the qualities that I was looking for with my point guards.
1- Can handle the ball WELL with both hands
2- Sees the floor well
3- Can initiate the offense without turning the ball over
4- Will get the ball to the player with the hot hand
5- Can penetrate and dish, dump, kick out and/or take the ball to the hole
5- Is automatic from the free throw line
6- Can hit the mid range jumper with a good percentage
7- ( A plus is ) Be a good three point shooter
8- This should probably be #1 but - BE A QB/LEADER/COACH on the floor. (think like I do and no what is needed at the time)
9- Have a good understanding of the game, know what is important, the ball or a score ( a 2 or a 3 )
10- PLAYS GREAT DEFENSE ( can shut down the oppoisitions point guard )

Just a few, but these are mine - Oh yeah, be the next Michael Jordon LOL
Alright thanks

I'll check them out . Jordan aint got nothing on me lol .

Another question please lol . I need help with planning a workout. I want it to be intense and designed to help me become the best player i can be , I know we've done this before but know that i'm running the point i need to start a new one . Plus i need some in regards to if i should wprk on certain aspects of my game ob diffrent days or all on the same day . I've got about 105 days until we go to the usa and play against 5a schools in texas so i gotta get my pg skills on

Sorry for all these q's im sick and cant go school do boredddddddd as hell lol
excuse the grammar errors , i'm msg from my phone
Take a look at your skills right now.... and ask yourself, what is it that I need to improve upon? Weak hand ball handling? Seeing the floor? A better understanding of the game? Mid range Jumpers, 3s, FTs? A lof of these things you can do on your own but some only come from playing.

Work on your quickness - ball handling - CROSSOVER dribbling - shooting .... these you can do on your own... passing, seeing the floor, knowing what to do when... all comes from playing.......hard to work on passing without a partner or games.

Write down all the things you THINK you need to work on..... and everything else we have discussed. Then prioritize them and decide how much time you can devote to each on.... or NEED to devote to each one. 105 days should give you plenty of time to improve on your skill level.

By the way, get well soon.
Ok Tell me if this is good

6am - 8.10am

Monday Morning - Quickness, Stationary Ball handling , Mid range shooting, Free throws

30 min's of skipping , 10 min's left leg , 10 min's right leg , 10 min's double bounce

Then these quickness drills in 30 sec intervals http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Play-Basketball-Quickness-Drills-5150321

Stationary ball handling drills - 30 seconds pounds RH , LH , In & Outs , Behind the back , 2 ball dribbling - 30 sec pounds , RH,LH, In and Outs

Make 10 free throws

Form shooting - 10 Rh makes - side , front and side 4 feet out
Mikan drill - 10 makes each hand
Form shooting - 5 feet out front on 20 makes

5 mins - 5 spots , Baseline , wing , top of the key , wing , baseline - I have 5 min's to take 30+ perfect shots . 10 rh one bounce pull ups , 10 lh one bounce pull ups , 10 catch and shoots , 10 through the legs 3 times then pull up

I'll shoot 2 free throws in between every 5 min set .

10 Full court pull ups , Dribble as fast as i can and pull up at the free throw line

10 ft's in a row , 10 pushups in between every set of 2

To leave the gym i have to make 10 Jumpers in a row from Mid range and if i miss go back to 0 . It's not counted as a miss though if i rebound the ball before it hits the floor .
A well thought out plan........ does this address everything you need to improve upon? Can you find a place to play with other kids.... maybe older/better than you? Playing against better opponents forces you to work harder and hopefully improve your game, or get eaten up.

I didn't see any three's???? Oversight or ??
sorry coach , i forgot to write out my afternoon workout , coming soon
No problem.... seems like you are as anal as I was/am. :-)

Tell me how many days a week you are going to do this... and for how long. The last thing you want to do is to burn yourself out.... or get some injury that will force you to shut down, that would be counter productive to your goals. ( Which is something you should write down... goals )
Yeah. Listen to Coach Sar. LAst thing you want to do is burn yourself out. You can actually practice too much. I would try to do three to four 60 to 90 minute sessions per week. Off days, you could play some games or do some very light work.
Jeff & Joe,

Remember.... next time you get into my area... let me know and we can get together for a "pop" and talk hoops. I would love that

Ken
Hi Coach Sar and Joe .

Appreciate the advice .

Ok Coach Sar here's my afternoon workout .
