Interesting rules... almost like the NBA... no harm - no foul. So you play at least 2 qtrs. and part or most of the 3rd? AND you scored 8 points in half a game... darn good....
I guess they do that to keep the game moving, they must play several games a day then.
Finishing and getting fouled like Monta Ellis

I play one of the first two quarters, one of the second two quarters and half of the 5th period.
Yes several teams play in the day.
I have my first school practice tomorrow:-)

Good luck Ben,
I bet you are really excited to get into your season.
Have some fun, show the coach your skills, shooting and ball handling abilities! Run the team like another coach on the floor. A point guard is usually the leader of the team.
Want to really impress him? Become a shut down defender too! Every loose ball is yours and take a few charges whenever you can.
Let us know how it goes.

Just a couple of things....... you have good range for your age.... I hope it isn't affecting your form.... keep up the good work there.
A couple of things to think about... the hardest guy to cover is the one who is moving... and one that doesn't play at the same speed the whole game. IF I know that you are playing full speed then I know what speed I have to play at... BUT - IF you are changing your pace, making some good V cuts you will be a lot harder to cover... just a few thoughts to think about as you go into your schools season.

Ok, well I had my first practice today and it was fun.
Here's a thought...
My coach does it a little reversed then normal practices.
He does some warmup drills layups etc. and then we do scrimaging.
He says that we'll get our energy out in the scrimmage and then the drills will be more mental for us. Different.

Everybody has their own way of doing things Ben. If this works for your coach then its a good thing. Thats the great thing about this game.. there are so many ways of teaching fundamentals, offenses and defenses.
Maybe he wanted to see some of the kids play before he started with the fundamentals.
Just keep working hard and things will work out for you. Let us know how its going.

Have a great day and you're welcome!
- Keep your cool and don't be tempted to try too hard, 95% of mistakes are caused by trying too hard. You must practice everyday until you are able to relax and let your body do what it wants to do.

Ive actually seen althoughs videos. Actually if you check the comments on the crossover youll find one by me.
But during the game before this one we realized most refs dont call hand checks or anything. So my Dad(the coach) decide were going to play chest to chest defence. Im pretty sure I didnt let my man score.
My dad was also saying the line you must protect is the straight line to the basket. Youre doing your job if your not letting him go to the straight line to the basket.

OK, tell me what you said....
I like the idea of closing out and locking up on the guy with the ball... nothing like a lot of pressure to make them uncomfortable and make bad decisions.
We played on the line up the line defense and our goals were to keep the ball out of the paint.. make them beat us with a perimiter shot with a hand in their face! (this was Dick Bennets D from Wisconsin)
From the point we steered them to the free throw line extended
( To explain why -- it was to get them off the center line of the floor and dictate help defense right away)and from the wing we steered to the short corner... 8-10 feet from the basket on the end line.
Today you see more pack line defenses with the advent of the Dribble Drive offense... and the players are much quicker and better at handling the ball.

If you watched a few of those videos regarding CROSSOVER MOVES you can see what a good weapon that is.. and if you incorporate a jump shot along with that move... thats golden.
I couldn't find your comments Ben... but thats ok.... I think you do your homework regarding basketball..... I know that you will be working on these moves to make yourself a better player.

Ben,
I was watching a Video by Barry Adams and he was talking about bumping the defender to knock him off balance just before going into your shot.... (lean into and move him back a bit)
Play 1 on 1 with some one - take them inside and try this out once you get inside.... hope this helps.
Let me know how this works out for you IF you get a chance to use it. I know we haven't talked about this for some time but when I saw the video I thought about you.

Got any thoughts?
