Hey Ekam!
Ok, Don't confise me... you are right handed correct? I'm trying to figure this out, why you are having so much trouble with your shot. Maybe you are thinking too much about each step... shooting by the numbers?
This has to be a nice consistent routine / form. It's not 1 - 2 - 3 etc. Your form is good correct? IF so, you need to get a routine down now. Go to a wall so you don't have to worry about making the shot. Just pick a spot on the wall where you are going to shoot it.
You can either take one dribble (or flip the ball and square up) bring the ball up into the shooting pocket - the little window between your forearms... as you are bringing the ball up you should be bending your knees and start to go into your shot and jumping at the same time. DON'T worry about how high you jump..... your elbow should be just above your eye (or that general area). I wish I could see your shot, it would make it a lot easier to see the problem.
I hope what I gave you here will help you. Go on you tube and look for a jump shot, that might help you to see what you need to do.

Work your way out slowly but surely.... start at a distance where you are completely comfortable and are successful.... then move back a few feet and shoot there until you are having the same success. You can use 5 in a row as a measuring point or 3 in a row.....
Keep up the good work.

Hi Coach,
for a crossover, does jumping alittle of the ground before doing it have any impact becasue all the great
crossover guys usually do it

Ekam,
Take a closer look at some of those guys and crossover moves on you tube- like Tim Hardaway and let me know what you think.

Ekam, I've played against players that do the little jump. It was an easy read for me because that was the only time they did the little jump.
The crossover is only set up when you have the abiility to drive right past them on an explosion dribble or hesitation move. If it's done with a little jump, great. But it's not something I teach.
Take a look at this article and video: http://www.breakthroughbasketball.com/fundamentals/Chris-Paul-Hesitation-Move.html

I agree Joe, I think that a little hesistation dribble, fake one way and crossover etc. Seems to me that IF you are OFF the ground while dribbling (the jump) you aren't going anywhere.

okay, thanks

Ekam, Don't forget to work on this part of your game - the mid range jump shot as described here.
When you are working with just 50% of the offensive area, well, you have to work longer to produce a good shot. But the pickup dribble and the jump shot would help alleviate that pressure. It would also speed up the game. I used to have a drill to promote the pickup 2-point jumper: 5-on-5, no shots either from three or in the lane. Oh, my God! Guys had to work like crazy! But, you know what? They improved and we'd get those shots in the games. I told them, "The jumper is the can-opener. Hit a few of those and the threes will come and the lane will open up." But I am howling into the wind on this one.
This came from a coaching friend in Italy.

okay thanks, i also like shooting from the midrange more, i dont liek shooting 3's tha tmuch

You will as soon as you start knocking them down. We beat the #8 team in the state one year, went 6 for 9 from the 3. :-) Keep working on that mid range shot... It will make your team harder to defend.

Tough gig -You can work on your dribbling... form shooting off the wall and ball handling drills too.
Jump rope, jumping back and forth over lines ... jump up and down on boxes.

wat bout practicing a 1,2 step going of a screen and getting ready for a catch and shoot, and of the dribble
5/27/2010 13:10
That works too.... think of anything that you use in YOUR game and break it down to a drill.... do that within the confines or your garage.

For this offseason, i'm working on adding at least 3 different moves finishing at the rim...should i practice a move with both feet
example:- pretend i'm practicing the euro step and i finish on the ride side with my right hand using a left to right step, should i practice it the opposite way too
