For M-M defense against under the basket inbound plays--I'm wondering if I should move the defender on the passer to the paint, to protect against a cutter getting an easy hoop. I coach a 5/6 girls rec team, and nearly all baskets are scored in the paint; few outside shots. But also, I will also soon be coaching a travel team, where we'll be likely to face more skilled opponents.
Basically, I'm wondering which is a better defense to teach the kids --pressure on the inbound passer or move that defender to the paint, or something in between.
Thanks,
Paul

We started with the defender being right under the basket.. teams started to exploit the fact thet he couldn't recover in time... so dod I thine, we ran pick the picker and if the O player ball side didn't get the ball he screened that defender... Inbounder stepped inbounds, quick pass back for a short shot.
His / Hew job first and foremost is to make sure NO pass is made to the back side ( which usually results in an easy basket) .... so we moved him closer to the inbounder... just inside the lane... as soon as the ball was in the air we had him jump the inbounder so he didn't get any easy shot.
This worked for us.
