Our offense

This is the offense that we run. I am a young coach (going into my 3rd year as a Varsity Head Coach and my 4th as a coach) and I started trying to put in the motion last season. However, I wasn't consistent and didn't stick with it. I'd try to run motion but upon realizing that my team wasn't moving enough, I would decide to go with set plays. Towards the end of the year, I re-commited to the offense and in Summer Leagues we're starting to look very good. I am still learning though as is my team.

My rules for our motion:
-Don't stand in the same spot for more than 2 seconds
- When you pass the ball, cut or screen away.
-Leave the Hi post area open for the post player
-Backdoor when a defender is above the 3 point line, backdoor them.
-Crash the boards or sprint back on defense but don't stand.
-When a screen is set for you, use it to curl or cut to the basket
-Move the ball, move yourself.
I am trying to keep it simple as I don't want to overload my players

I would say make sure to have at least one (I always use two) spots to drop back as safeties on any shot attempt. Some players you can't give a choice to, if everyone crashes the boards, you are going to have trouble from teams that are fastbreaking at opportunity every chance they get.
I liked Hubie Brown's 2 1/2 on the boards rule. The 4 man and 5 man always crash the boards. The one man and the two man always dropped back to safety position.
The 3 man would drop back if he took an outside shot, and crash the boards if he took and inside or driving shot.
