Breaking a 2-2-1 Half Court Trap

Coach: there are two schools of thought with the 2-2-1 press, you can trap at the mid court line and sideline BEFORE you cross thus giving your team pressure to get the ball across the ten second line within the required amount of time or set your trap AFTER you cross so you cant reverse the ball. My advice, is to have your point guard trail the ball at an angle to the ball invite the trap then quickly reverse the ball. This trap is designed to force the ball carrier to the sideline and then set up your trap. It is advisable to flash a player to the middle following the reversal and break it that way. Hope this helps.
