I have 4 and half year old son who loves basketball. We go to the park and shoot, but since he is not strong enough, he uses a 7 or 8 inch novelty basketball. He dribbles and shoots from just outside the block crease and make shots.
Which is better? Shooting on the 10 foot rim with the small ball or shooting on a 7 foot rim with a regulation ball?
We also have the adjustable little tykes that he shoots and dribbles on

Skip the shooting, getting him working on those crossovers! ; )
Cool that your son enjoys basketball. That's the key right there. If he's having fun, you're good. At 4, I'd go with the easiest way to make baskets right now.

Thanks Coach Rob.
He actually has started working on the crossover. He needs to work on the left hand.

Wow! Sounds like you have a good little player in the making. One of the biggest assets, as he goes along, is his ability to dribble with both hands. Two ball dribbling drills are definitely challenging but can pay big dividends down the road.
I'm still a big advocate of making sure those little guys are having fun though. Sneaking in the things while having fun, like H-O-R-S-E. Last shot has to be a swish, things like that.
Enjoy your time now, they grow up fast.
