K-6 10 Foot Hoops Pros & Cons

Forum » Player Development / Fundamentals » K-6 10 Foot Hoops Pros & Cons
I needed some info on the pros & cons of playing basketball on 10 foot hoops for grade school children. I have my philosophy on this topic and i think the rims should be lowered to be proportionate to a kids height. I would like to hear from the basketball community. Opinions and info from you and your staff would be a great help. Thank you.
I would agree, I think that Jeff or Joe has that information... but this is what I found.
I remember ( I think it was Bob Bigelow ) saying that young kids using the big ball and shooting at 10 foot baskets would be like us trying to shoot at 15 foot basket with a 10 pound ball. Those might not be the correct numbers but I think you get the idea.

Lets try to make the game age appropriate, smaller balls, shorter baskets and they should be playing 3 on 3. JMO

Here's a thread with what we recommend and a bunch of other coaches commenting on what they think...

Bob Bigelow on training coaches. First minute or so brings up a great point about how it is to play basketball as a younger kid.
