3 Critical Tips For Suffocating Ball Pressure In A Full Court Defense
In Keith Haske's Uptempo Basketball System - Pressure Defense, Pressure Offense, he discusses three critical tips for ball pressure in the video below.
Coach Haske has been to four state championship games and has won over 500 games at the high school level.
Here are the three tips mentioned in the video.
1) Don’t Foul - Don’t Lean On Player.
This makes a lot of sense. What is the purpose of fouling somebody 25 feet, 50 feet, or 75 feet from the basket?
It possibly could put your players in foul trouble.
It could also lead to a bonus, so the opposing team is getting a possession that results in the most efficient possession in basketball... two foul shots.
2) Don’t Give Them Space.
This makes it too easy for them to slow down the pace. It also makes them comfortable which will result in fewer ball handling mistakes and bad passes. You want to speed them up, so they are uncomfortable which will typically result in more turnovers.
3) Turn & Run! Don’t Slide, Slide, Slide.
This is something you’ve heard us preach over and over. Do whatever you need to do to keep the ball in front of you.
If you are beat, turn and run… don’t slide, slide, slide to try to catch up. You never will.
Also, there will be times that you play against very fast ball handlers. Even with them in front of you, you will have no choice but to turn and run.
