Coach David Bishop

Coach Bishop has been working Breakthrough Basketball Camps for 10 years, having experience with all of our different camp offerings. He has worked along side Don Kelbick, Jim Huber, Chris Oliver, among others.

David has 15 years of Varsity Boys Head coaching experience.

Won over 300 games and 5 state championship game appearances and 1 state title.

Has coached 12 -1000 point scorers (2 - 2000, 3 - 1500, 3 - 1000+)

Team averages 70+ points per game with 10 players making 100+ three pointers in a season

Coach Donte Wright

Coach Donte Karon Wright, also known as Coach K. Wright, is originally from Jackson, South Carolina. He attended and played basketball at South Carolina State University. In the 2017-2018 season, he finished in the Top 20 three pointers made in all of NCAA Division I.

Wright completed his Bachelors degree in Psychology and his Masters degree in Business. He also played 5 years of professional basketball internationally in Mexico, Argentina, and Scotland.

He has a wealth of experience developing players in his personal training business, OverLooked Skills Academy. His passion has allowed him to train players of all levels both in the United States, and internationally, in Amsterdam and Italy

Foundation of Shooting

This is the first step in becoming a great shooter. Some players will progress through this stage quickly, while others will need to spend a bit more time to correct some bad habits. You will also learn:

How your stance could actually be causing your shot to go left and right and how to fix it

Why the parallel stance may not be the right fit for you

How your legs and not just your follow through can actually cause a flat shot

The proper release point and follow through

How inflexibility in your legs can affect your shot in a negative way

Learn the Steve Nash adjustment that allows players to shoot accurately from further distances

Shooting Off of the Catch Like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant

After we have built a great shooting foundation, we will progress to shooting off of the catch. You will learn:

How to make your shot quicker

The mentality to making your shot quicker

The proper body position for every shot off of the catch

The proper footwork for different situations during the game

The proper hand position to create consistency and accuracy

How to pull up out of the fast break

Shooting Off of the Dribble Like Russell Westbrook & Kyrie Irving

As the levels go up, it's very important to add a pull up jump shot off of the dribble. This gives you the ability to score as defenders rush out to defend the initial shot. You will learn:

The often ignored, but important progressions for the shot off of the dribble learned from legendary Hal Wissel who coached in the NBA

Learn how to properly pick up the basketball and how doing it the wrong way could be causing your shot to miss to the left and the right

Learn how the pace of the dribble can make your shot quicker

Learn how to properly execute the sweep and step through to create space from your defender

Learn the mentality needed to have a successful pull up jump shot and how the wrong mentality can be easily defended

Learn Advanced Shooting Techniques Used by the Pros

We're pleased to announce that we have arranged for Donte Wright to come to Roanoke, Virginia to run a 3-day skill development camp for high school and middle school players. Coach Wright has developed a very effective method to develop players and improve their decision making.
We have chosen this basketball camp and Donte Wright because of his unique and highly effective training methods and ability to get results. More than other traditional basketball camps, this camp will teach you with the drills and skills to continue your development beyond your time at camp. Quick decision making drills will be used to build the ideal camp learning environment. You will learn by doing. We will teach you to consistently and deliberately work to improve your performance.

Improve Your Ball handling

Considerable time will be spent on your dribbling and passing skills -- allowing you to reduce turnovers, handle any game situation, improve decision making, and improve overall ball handling skill.

Improve Your 1on1 Moves

You will learn how to beat your defender off the dribble, when to attack, how to create space, and how to develop a more explosive first move. In today's game, so many players misuse the dribble. They use it and lose their advantage against the defense. You will learn how to effectively use the dribble and cover more space with fewer dribbles at a faster pace.

Improve Confidence

During the camp, they will teach the mental aspects of the game, help you build confidence, and become more aggressive. You will learn how to train your mind, not just physical skills.

Improve Decision Making

What is Quick Decision Making?

In this camp you will improve your overall skills like ball handling and shooting -- however a big emphasis of the camp will be "decision making"...

Players will learn when to pass, when to shoot, when to dribble, when to drive, angles to take, how to be more aggressive, and more.

The Training methods will:

Train the mind of players to make faster decisions within the practice environment

Improve the ability to think and act in decisive ways

Develop a confident attacking mindset

Learn how to train your mind not just physical skills

Identification, cause and correction of the most common fundamental errors

Knowledge of the skills necessary to catch, shoot, dribble and attack on offense

Game-like understanding of the application of perimeter offensive skills

During the camp, the instructors will use decision making drills and rhythm clapping to enhance the teaching of basketball's most important offensive skills - shooting, passing, dribbling and 1 on 1 moves. Combining decision making drills with rhythmic clapping enhances the learning experience for the player due to:
