Coach Marcus Hall

Marcus Hall is a player development coach. His clientele ranges from middle school to overseas professional players. He owns Advance Basketball Academy that operates out of southeast Iowa, which focuses on player development and assembling competitive teams year-round

Additionally, Marcus coaches high school basketball and is currently the Boys Head Coach at Columbus Community High School. He has been named both SEISC and Golden Triangle Coach of the Year

Marcus has been a Lead Coach for Breakthrough Basketball since 2019 and has helped hundreds of campers all across the Midwest

Coach Kenton Tennal

We chose Coach Tennal for his love for the game of basketball along with a tremendous work ethic, enthusiasm and intensity. Kenton Tennal has all the right ingredients to be one of the top young basketball camp coaches in the Midwest.

Tennal has coached a high school basketball team into the State Tournament in three different states…Kansas, Nebraska and most recently Iowa

Coach Tennal’s career record as a head high school coach is 101-33 (75%.) His teams have consistently been near the top of offensive statistical categories such as points per game, and 3’s made per game. In 5 seasons, Tennal has coached 14 1st/2nd team all conference players.

Coach Chris Barnette

Hailing from Raleigh, NC, Chris Barnette honed his skills at Ravenscroft School, emerging as a standout player with 1st team all-state honors and securing the conference player of the year title in his senior year. He began his college career at NCAA Division 2's Mars Hill University (NC) and earned a spot in the starting lineup halfway through his freshman season

He then went to NCAA Division 3's Covenant College (GA), where he not only amassed over 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, and 300 assists but also secured 3rd, 2nd, and 1st team all-conference honors and graduated with a Sports Management degree. He used his extra year of eligibility to play at NCCAA Division 2's Faith Baptist Bible College (IA) where he earned 1st team all-conference and 1st team All-American honors

Barnette is currently the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Faith Baptist Bible College, and he's pursuing a master's degree while also serving as a local basketball trainer. Chris has years of playing, personal training, and camp coaching experience where he displays his passion for helping young athletes reach their full potential on and off of the court

We're excited to provide this 3 day youth camp in West Des Moines, Iowa that focuses on giving your little baller the essential drills and instruction to build a foundation on how to play the game of basketball.

Learn the necessary warm up, dribbling, passing, footwork, finishing moves & foundational shooting drills all while having FUN.

Ball is not life. We’ll also talk to the kids about gratitude, attitude, kindness, success, etc.

You will learn dynamic stretching that will improve coordination, core strength and flexibility while working on sports-specific movements.

Improve your ball handling skills with Maravich Drills

Partner Passing drills to learn the proper chest pass, bounce pass, flick air pass, etc.

Learn the proper shooting mechanics, release to finish while shooting close to the rim

Have fun while playing monkey in the middle, dribble tag, sharks & minnows, etc.

You will learn and improve your dribbling, passing, shooting form, lay-up form, and agility to take your game to the next level.

Ball Handling

Be able to control and have a better feel for the basketball. Dribble with eyes up to have great court vision

These basketball camps are for boys and girls in grades 3rd to 8th.

You will learn the techniques and skill needed to become a great shooter.

You will learn how to become a defensive stopper and rebounding machine.

You will learn the critical components of basketball IQ required to become a great offensive player from an individual and team aspect.

After we have built a great shooting foundation, we will progress to shooting off of the catch. You will learn:

The proper body position for every shot off of the catch

The proper footwork for different situations during the game

The proper hand position to create consistency and accuracy

How to pull up out of the fast break

Shooting Off of the Dribble Like Russell Westbrook & Kyrie Irving

As the levels go up, it's very important to add a pull up jump shot off of the dribble. This gives you the ability to score as defenders rush out to defend the initial shot. You will learn:

The often ignored, but important progressions for the shot off of the dribble learned from legendary Hal Wissel who coached in the NBA

Learn how to properly pick up the basketball and how doing it the wrong way could be causing your shot to miss to the left and the right

Learn how the pace of the dribble can make your shot quicker

Learn how to properly execute the sweep and step through to create space from your defender

Learn the mentality needed to have a successful pull up jump shot and how the wrong mentality can be easily defended

Learn Advanced Shooting Techniques Used by the Pros

Coaches can attend for free by working the basketball camp. Email us with your coaching/playing experience if you're interested in helping with the basketball camp.

Otherwise there is a $97 fee to attend as an "observing coach". You will get to learn new drills and techniques from Chris Barnette, just like all the players and other coaches in attendance. Visit this link to reserve your spot as an observing coach.
