Coach Marcus Hall

Marcus Hall is a player development coach. His clientele ranges from middle school to overseas professional players. He owns Advance Basketball Academy that operates out of southeast Iowa, which focuses on player development and assembling competitive teams year-round

Additionally, Marcus coaches high school basketball and is currently the Boys Head Coach at Columbus Community High School. He has been named both SEISC and Golden Triangle Coach of the Year

Marcus has been a Lead Coach for Breakthrough Basketball since 2019 and has helped hundreds of campers all across the Midwest

Coach Kenton Tennal

We chose Coach Tennal for his love for the game of basketball along with a tremendous work ethic, enthusiasm and intensity. Kenton Tennal has all the right ingredients to be one of the top young basketball camp coaches in the Midwest.

Tennal has coached a high school basketball team into the State Tournament in three different states�Kansas, Nebraska and most recently Iowa

Coach Tennal�s career record as a head high school coach is 101-33 (75%.) His teams have consistently been near the top of offensive statistical categories such as points per game, and 3�s made per game. In 5 seasons, Tennal has coached 14 1st/2nd team all conference players.

We're excited to provide this 3 day youth camp in West Des Moines, Iowa that focuses on giving your little baller the essential drills and instruction to build a foundation on how to play the game of basketball.

Learn the necessary warm up, dribbling, passing, footwork, finishing moves & foundational shooting drills all while having FUN.

Ball is not life. We�ll also talk to the kids about gratitude, attitude, kindness, success, etc.

You will learn dynamic stretching that will improve coordination, core strength and flexibility while working on sports-specific movements.

Improve your ball handling skills with Maravich Drills

Partner Passing drills to learn the proper chest pass, bounce pass, flick air pass, etc.

Learn the proper shooting mechanics, release to finish while shooting close to the rim

Have fun while playing monkey in the middle, dribble tag, sharks & minnows, etc.

You will learn and improve your dribbling, passing, shooting form, lay-up form, and agility to take your game to the next level.

Ball Handling

Be able to control and have a better feel for the basketball. Dribble with eyes up to have great court vision

Stationary ball handling routine that improve rhythm, feel, and coordination with the basketball

The ability to change speeds and directions to create separation and advantages

Shooting

How to position your feet and align your body to increase the chance of shooting the ball straight

A form shooting routine that almost every great shooter has utilized that can be done at home

Proper footwork and how to develop a quick release

Proper shooting hand and off-hand placement

Lay Ups / Finishing

Finishing techniques used to reduce turnovers and make more shots

1 on 1 finishing drills that ingrain good habits while competing in a fun way

Passing

The ability to throw passes on target and on time

Using pass fakes to not telegraph your passes

Catch in triple threat position for an aggressive mindset

Footwork

How to use your feet to gain a better position to score from almost anywhere on the floor

Understand the importance of beating a defender with your feet and creating separation with the dribble

Learning the footwork will lessen travels and help to create separation

Defense

Learn proper defensive stance and footwork to keep the offensive player in front of you

Games

Kids will also get a chance to play some fun games during these sessions. Monkey in the Middle, King of the Court, Musical Basketballs just to name a few.

This 2026 Summer basketball camp focuses on developing better scoring moves, ball handling, and playmaking ability!

At these basketball camps, you improve your scoring, ball handling, shooting, passing, athleticism, footwork, decision-making, and 1 on 1 moves to take your game to the next level!

These basketball camps are for boys and girls in grades 3rd to 8th.

You will learn the techniques and skill needed to become a great shooter.

You will learn the essential skills to becoming a great ball handler� no fluff.

You will learn how to make more lay ups.

You will learn how to become a defensive stopper and rebounding machine.

You will learn the critical components of basketball IQ required to become a great offensive player from an individual and team aspect.

We will teach you all of the critical skills and concepts that coaches love and help players excel.

Ball Handling

Stationary ball handling routine that improve rhythm, feel, and coordination with the basketball.

Dribbles move to help you blow by the defense at will.

Critical progressions to ensure that your dribble moves are effective and explosive.

Shooting

How to position your feet and align your body to increase the chance of shooting the ball straight.

A form shooting routine that almost every great shooter has utilized that can be done at home.

Proper footwork and how to develop a quick release.

How to shoot game shots from game spots at game speeds.

Lay Ups / Finishing

Finishing techniques used to reduce turnovers and make more shots.

1 on 1 finishing drills that ingrain good habits while competing in a fun way.

Offense

How to cut and get open. You will learn v-cuts, basket cuts, l-cuts, backdoor cuts, and more.

How to attack down screens, back screens, and more.

Defense and Rebounding

How to improve quickness and play better on-ball defense.

How to improve speed with hip-turns, push step, and better movement fundamentals.

5 fundamental keys to effective close-outs.

How position away from the ball and be a great team defensive player.

How to effectively box out your man every time.

Footwork

How to use your feet to gain a better position to score from almost anywhere on the floor.

How to utilize front pivots, reverse pivots, step throughs, sweeps, drop steps, and hops to make you an elite player.

Passing

Improve hand eye-coordination and passing skills with the Steve Nash passing series.

Competitive passing drills to develop game-like passing with head and pass fakes.

Competitive Play and Controlled Scrimmages

Players will also get to take the skills they practiced and apply them in a game setting. This is fun and intense.

The games are set up, so the players have to give maximum effort and execute proper fundamentals. Players earn points for proper play and are deducted points for poor effort and execution.

Observing Coaches

Coaches can attend for free by working the basketball camp. Email us with your coaching/playing experience if you're interested in helping with the basketball camp.

Otherwise there is a $97 fee to attend as an "observing coach". You will get to learn new drills and techniques from Kenton Tennal, just like all the players and other coaches in attendance. Visit this link to reserve your spot as an observing coach.
