Garnett Sideline Lob Play vs. New York Knicks (4/17/11)

Categories: Offense (Team)
Ages: High School+

Summary:

Here is another great end of game play that the Boston Celtics used against the New York Knicks.

Personnel:

1 - Passer (Rondo)
2 - Shooter (Allen)
3 - Shooter (Pierce)
4 - Leaper (Garnett)
5 - Screener (Davis)

Instructions

  • 5 is facing inbounder as if to set a back screen for inbounder after they pass the ball.
  • 2 and 4 are facing the inbounder.
  • 3 is facing inbounder.
  • 3 runs hard towards 5. Then, he sets a screen for 5. At first, this will look as if 3 is running to the ball.
  • 2 takes his man down a couple of steps as if he is trying to go baseline. In reality, 2 is setting himself up for a back screen on 4.
  • As soon as 3 runs by, 4 fakes high calling for the ball, then cuts backdoor off the screen.
  • Option 1 is to throw the backdoor lob to 4.
  • Option 2 - Screen the Screener
  • 5 runs off of 3's screen to set a screen for 2.
  • 3 rolls to the basket for offensive rebounding position.
  • 4 stays underneath the basket for offensive rebounding position.
  • Option 3 - Hand off
  • If the shot is not open for 2, 1 can run off of 2 for a hand off.
  • Option 4 - Hand off by 5
  • If 2 can not get the ball, 2 clears out to corner, 5 pops out to receive pass and runs the hand off.

Excelent play, faked everyone out of Ganett.

Another typo: It''''s Glenn Davis, not Perkins.

Just one typo. I believe 2 is setting up to backscreen the 4, not the 5.
