Pro Agility Drill

Categories: Agility
Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

The purpose of this drill is to improve the player's ability to change directions while sprinting in a short area.

Instructions

  • The cones should be set up five yards apart from each other. So the cones at the far left and far right are 10 yards apart.
  • The player should straddle the center cone balanced and ready sprint.
  • On the coach's GO the player will turn in either direction (the diagram shows left) and sprint 5 yards, then back 10 yards to the other cone, then finish with the 5 yards back through the center cone.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Stay low throughout the entire drill.
  • Plant your foot and pivot in the turns.
  • Run through the center cone at the end. Do not just stop at the cone. It will make for a slower time.
  • This drill can incoroporate a variety of movements or combination of movements (slides, sprints, carioca) but for the sake of testing I go with the sprint.

Motivation/Teaching Tips:

  • Time the drill
