Star Drill

Purpose of the Drill:

The purpose of this drill is to work on changing directions while changing movements (sliding, backpedaling, sprinting).

Instructions

  • Player 1 starts in the corner and sprints to the middle then back to the corner, then up the line to the second cone, then to the middle and back to the second cone, then up the line to the third cone, then to the middle and back to the third cone, then up the line to the fourth cone, then to the middle and back to the fourth cone, then finally up the line to the cone that they started at.
  • This drill can be done as all sprints or any combination of movements. For example, sprint to the middle cones, backpedal back, and slide up the lines.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Players shoud stay low throughout.
  • Plant their foot to change directions effectively.
  • Do not get sloppy and have a breakdown in forwm when you get tired around the 3rd and 4th cone
