2 out 3 in Motion Offense

The 2 out 3 in motion offense is for teams that like to play the power game. There is not much movement involved and it can be devastating if you have at least 1 perimeter player that can really shoot it and a post player who is comfortable shooting from the foul line. If you have 3 inside players that you would like to play at 1 time, the 2 out/3 in motion might be a good set to look at.

In the 2 3 motion, the perimeter players split the court and operate up and down the sidelines (green shaded areas) and the post players work inside (blue areas).

The 2 perimeter players essentially work independently. Where they go affects the defense's coverage of the post players. Since their defenders will follow, as the perimeter players move can open post lanes, limit post help and will free perimeter shooters for shots. They do not screen and they do not make basket cuts. Essentially, their job is to stay out of the way of the post players.

The post players work together and screen for one another. They can screen down, screen across, up-screen, back-screen, double screen for one another. The screeners react to where the cutter goes. They should do their best to maintain their spacing and not wander into the middle of the lane or sink down from the foul line. There is limited space in the lane and they do not want to close it up too much.

You will also notice that there is no perimeter spot on the top of the key. Perimeter players must stay on the sidelines to create effective spacing. The post player at the top of the key can step out and is used for ball reversal.

Hey can you post more on this offense...
i.e. drills to help teach it, plays that work well within the O, when it is the most effective, and the most essential rules when teaching.

Cheers,

The Motion offense ebook that is sold through the site not only gives you a lot of options for this set up, but for the 4 out 1 in and 5 out as well. Plus they have a bunch of breakdown drills. Our offense has looked much better this season since we implemented the stuff we''''ve been given.

Give a look to Dick Bennett's Triangle offense. It's not a Triangle like the Chicago Bulls/Tex Winter Triangle. It is more of a triple post offense that includes some very nice inside movement. It functions a little more like a zone offense, but works nicely if you have the players with inside and high post skills to utilize it.

If you have 3 big guys and want to go to a 3 in / 2 out offense, look up UCLA offense.on utube..not the new wheel one, but the old Coach John Wooden one. Simple and deadly offense with 3 guys in forming a triangle in the interior.
