Advanced 7th Grade Player

We have a player at the 7th grade level that is advanced to the point that other teams are starting to double team him, any ideas aside from looking for the open man?

Do they double team him before or after he gets the ball? The only way to get people out of defenses like that is to make them pay... someone else is going to have to step up and make some shots.

Do you see m2m defenses or zones ? Can you describe what they are doing to you? The set up?

Like coach Sars, I am not sure exactly where they are double teaming him..what position does he play? point, off guard, post area. If hes not getting the ball then he needs to do other things to help the team. for example send him to screen your next best player to free him up. Post him up in the inside if they are double teaming him then you have a distinct advantage as coach Sars suggests make them pay and pay they will if you have another player that can step into that roll and drop a few on their heads. If its your point guard, bring your next best ball handler to get the ball and have your excellent player set rear screens for him. Can you imagine the congestion with three defensive players in one area the confusion should be enough to free someone up for an easy basket. there are things to this great game than just shooting..Coach Mac
