We liked to look for things we weren't doing well so we could correct it in the next practices.
As for our opponent.... IF I was lucky enough to get game film ( we scuted in person )
I looked at the defensive part of their bame and my asst. took care of the offense ( we also shared things as we saw them)
I wanted to know -
1- where and hoe did they press
2- theiir best defense and their weakest and how to attack them
3- when did they change Ds? Out of time outs, qtrs. etc.
4. How did they defend inbouns plays? Sideline and under the basket
I also looked for who their best shooter was ... how they set him up.... multiple screens / staggered etc.
What their favorite go to play was and for who
You can add somethings that you think are important as you look at this.

Are you breaking down your own game film or your opponents?

HUDL is a pretty cool service for game film. Not free, so if your school has some funds that could be allocated.

My plan is to record all our games - home and away.
I will then breakdown opponents first as most games we play the same team back to back. I then plan to look at my own team.
I will also be doing my own stats using the iPad as well while watching the film.
Just not sure folks up here know the stats like I do.

As far as scouting an opponent, I don't do much as the high school level. I mostly determine the shooters / scorers, and try to dictate the type of shots they get.
Beyond that I'm mostly concerned with how my own team is playing and figure they can adapt to us. When breaking down film for my team, maybe I am missing something, but I didn't see much value in Hudl. With a couple extra steps I can basically do the same thing with youtube to share videos. They do have other stuff for editing video but I have never saw a need for it.
I have used Krossover and really like that. It allows you to just see all turnovers, all missed shots, etc. That is pretty helpful when breaking down film.
Here are the stats I look at and how I break down a game statistically:

I have looked at krossover, but my problem is that most of my games are on back to back nights, so I would need about a 12 hour turnaround time and can't justify the price for at least this year.
That is why I am looking at doing it myself. That means some pretty long nights I am sure - LOL
