Fun basketball games for 4/5 year olds

Forum » Practice Strategies » Fun basketball games for 4/5 year olds
I am coaching an under 8's team some with little or no experience of basketball. I am looking for any ideas on games or activities I can use that will teach basic basketball skills with a huge emphasis on just having fun!

Thanks for any help
At this age, it should be all about fundamentals and having FUN.

Look at Bob Bigelows coaching Youth Basketball on DVDs.

Keep your practices as simple as possible... passing/catching the ball.... dribbling etc. I wouldn't worry to much about shooting at this age, they aren't strong enough to shoot the ball well. It would probably be a waste of time to teach proper shooting because of that.

I think that DVD #1 from Bob Bigelow would be an excellent resource for you.

Then play some 3 on 3 games... it will give the kids more touches and more space to play in. You could play a game to 4 and everybody has to score before anyone can score the game winner.... that is with 3 players.
Also check out the drills half way down this page:

There is some great stuff on that page Jeff..... something for every youth coach.
