Coach -

From what I have read I would say that you are doing a great job! Keep up the good work, your goals are great and I hope all your kids make the HS teams..... and I wholeheartedly agree with something you said here.... I used to say this to my teams..... " Take care of the LITTLE things and the BIG things will take care of themselves! "

You talk about utilizing time... that is so important on every level... try to multi - task your drills....forget running for the sake of running, use a ball... let them improve a skill that way. ( that took me a long time to learn that one - I still have some kids that remember me putting the balls away early in practce.... how dumb was that! )

Here is a simple TIME SAVER..... NO water breaks. Our rule was simple.... if you need a drink, raise your hand, IF the coaches aren't explaining something , or you are not in the drill, you can go...... we used to have maybe 3 water breaks... 4-5 minutes each..... add that up for each practice and the entire year. Thats a lot of valuable time you can use to teach or give the kids reps.

Good luck

Thanks coach. That's a great point about water breaks. I limit them to 2 minutes but there's 4 or 5 per practice. 8-20 minutes a week over 10-15% of my total time I'm wasting.

Running sprints... I'm with ya. Not nearly enough time for that. I told them at the beggining of the year that If I ever put them on the baseline and we start running sprints, you know you've really done somethign wrong. Good news is, no pointless sprints so far!
