hello coach:) Just played basketball this morning and i asked my father to look over me. Here are things he said on my shot. He said that I was shooting SIDE VIEW. And he said the guide hand is like under the ball :( How can i fix this? So i guess go back to b.e.e.f. again? Thanks coach and God bless :)

Not sure what he means about SIDE VIEW.... but as for the guide hand being under the ball.... go back to FORM shooting.... freeze that guide hand..... shoot 50 FORM and then do the BEEF check. Keep working at it.... you are trying to change something that you have been doing for a long time, so its going to take awhile to change the MUSCLE MEMORY.

When you are FORM shooting... bring the ball up with one hand,,, put your guide hand up there but NOT on the ball... You want it along side the ball..... So you are going to be shooting with one hand and freezing the guide hand along side the ball. Once you start with BEEF you can put the guide hand on the ball, but freeze it in the proper position.

Check the pictures on the pages I sent you and you will see what I mean.

Good luck and God Bless you too!

Carlo -

I would say that every sport starts with BALANCE...... IF your feet are too close together its pretty easy to get bumped, stumble whatever and lose your balance. Think of a boxers stance... feet staggered, roughly shouler width apart or a little more and drop you butt a little bit. You will see that you have great balance that way and you will be able to shoot better.... play defense better etc.

IF you are still having problems with your guide hand.. do more form shooting - you can do this with or without a ball.

Go back to those links I sent you and look at them carefully..... I think they will show you what I am talking about.

hello coach :) I would just like to ask how to do a cross over dribble. Oh by the way my shooting form is getting better but still needs more practice. When i try moving farther back its getting back on the bad way. How could i also increase arm strength? Sorry if i haven`t visited the forum for like a month, been very busy in school :) Thank you so much and God bless :)

Welcome back Carlo -

I'm glad to hear that you are taking care of school business first... that is very important, EDUCATION is very important to you being successful in life. Hope you are doing well.

Lets go back to balance for a minute... think about a boxers stance... that should help you a bit. One foot should be back towards the heel of the other foot. This is easy to work on at the free throw line. It has to become automatic when you play a game.

As for your shot getting worse as you move further back... Typically you get your strength from your legs... get more of your legs into your shot and IF that doesn't help, then you might not be ready to shoot from that distance. How far back are you talking about?

Here is a link about executing a crossover... I tried to find it on this site but couldn't - maybe Jeff or Joe could post it.

I hope these help, let us know how this goes.

Hang in there Carlo -

Don't forget that you are trying to break some bad habits and develop new MUSCLE MEMORY. :-)

Start in close, as you are getting successful, you can move back a couple of steps..... do this a little at a time until you see some success. It might take you some time, so don't worry about that... just keep working on your game.

Thanks for all the blessings, I can use that. God Bless you too.
