Hardly any lifting and shower twice a week... no wonder you don't play much. LOL

Can you tell me the difference between shooting and shooting training? Training is practice?

Lets break this down since I see that you are taking care of your academics......

List your shooting times
List your practice (training) times
Number of games per week?
Strength training (Lifting)
Ball Handling

These are your five areas ..... come up with a appropriate schedule for each now.

I had that same kind of sarcastic humor with my players... I just HAD to throw that in there! LOL :-)

The next thing you have to do is to list your weaknesses......... I know you wanted to hear that one. Notice how I am throwing this responsibility back on your shoulders? (typical teacher eh - answer a question with a question!

Then we can mix in your workout to help with your weaknesses..... by the way, I don't see any time devoted to quickness drills.... IF you want to play at a D1 type school... you better have some quicks.

haha okay

Here is a break down of all the parts of my game

1. Consistency on Jumpshot( My jumpshot is improving but i need to be able to drill it in a game. I'm taking to long to get myself set by that time the defender closes out . But those only games in trainings i'll hit it lol .

2. Vertical leap ( Last year my vertical was 23 inches and currently its 27.6 of a one foot gather which isnt that good)

3. Going to my left hand , I'm able to drill left hand lay ups and all that but i'm not that confident attacking the left side of the court

4. Dribbling .( Dribbling is actually one of my strengths , i have pretty quick hands and good reaction but i always dribble with my head down when im dribbling full speed or attacking the rim

5. Reading the game and decision making . I didn't play alot of ball as a young kid so it alot of kids by age have a 5 yr head start ( I've been playing on my school team for 5 yrs but playing school ball and playing representative ball is a diffrent story in Australia .

6. Quickness. I'm fairly quick, can run lines( not suicides lol ) in 26.9 seconds which is pretty fast . I'm pretty agile and run the 20meter dash in 3.00 sec. All that said i can definently be faster , i have a decent first step but it could be much better and being a slasher i need that to compete in div 1.

7. I'm a good ft shooter . Shoot them at about 85 - 90 %

I dont do many quickness drills because i dont exaclty now how to work on first step and quickness up and down the court other than skipping rope .

This is what I wrote before your last post -

Ball handling is just mixed in with the shooting or when i get early to training THIS has to become a regular part of your workouts - ball handling and dribbling 10 - 15 minutes daily minimum.

SHOOTING

* Start with FORM SHOOTING 5 minutes minimum

* Free throws 50 (helps to solidify your form)

* Practice my jump shot everyday of the week I try and get around 200-400 J's up. THIS is a good goal, you can make this a lot easier and a lot more fun if you can find a friend to work out with.

*Footwork - jump rope - run lines ( free throw line to end line ) touching each line - jump over lines - jump on and off boxes (you want to improve your quickness)

Train with representative club Tuesday and Thursday night

Train with school team Saturday morning and sometimes Thursday afternoon

Play games on Saturday night and sometimes on Sunday depending if double header

Play a game on Monday

* Lift on Wednesday afternoon and maybe Sundays 3 Days a week

I might be wrong here - but - maybe you should take one day off of everything IF you can... Sunday? Give your body (and mind) a chance to rejuvenate.

Here is a break down of all the parts of my game

1. Consistency on Jump shot( My jump shot is improving but I need to be able to drill it in a game. I'm taking to long to get myself set by that time the defender closes out . But those only games in training's I'll hit it lol .

* First thing you need to is to be SHOT READY when you receive the ball, so that you can catch and go into your shot right away. Catch the ball on your inside foot and pivot immediately and square up into your shot. (one thing some of my players did during the summer was to work on getting the shot off faster .... we told them to count 1- 1,000 / 2 - 1,000 / 3 -1,000 ---- SO, if they got the shot off in the 2 -1,000 time.... we told them to work on getting it off at the 2 point....

2. Vertical leap ( Last year my vertical was 23 inches and currently its 27.6 of a one foot gather which isn't that good)

*Sometimes its not all about how high you jump but more about how quickly you get up.... and if your concern is about rebounding..... then work on positioning yourself.... while Dennis Rodman wasn't exactly short.... he out rebounded guys a lot bigger than him by knowing where the ball was going... and outworking them.
Work on leg strength to improve jumping ability .... Jumping on and off boxers ? Some lifting.

3. Going to my left hand , I'm able to drill left hand lay ups and all that but I'm not that confident attacking the left side of the court

* That means you have to work on this.... work on this in your own time and on the practice floor. This tells me that you are a little weak going left... if I scouted you that's the only way we would allow you to go. Work hard on going to your left.

4. Dribbling . Dribbling is actually one of my strengths , I have pretty quick hands and good reaction but I always dribble with my head down when I'm dribbling full speed or attacking the rim

* Make this part of your workout.... dribbling without looking at the ball... you can't play the game at an advanced level IF you have to look at the ball while dribbling. There are some dribble aids that you can find on line.... some type of glasses that don't allow you to look down.

5. Reading the game and decision making . I didn't play a lot of ball as a young kid so it a lot of kids my age have a 5 yr head start ( I've been playing on my school team for 5 yrs but playing school ball and playing representative ball is a different story in Australia . )
*Experience is the only thing that will help this... play as much as you can.... go to a park and play with older guys... they will make you better.

6. Quickness. I'm fairly quick, can run lines( not suicides lol ) in 26.9 seconds which is pretty fast . I'm pretty agile and run the 20 meter dash in 3.00 sec. All that said I can definitely be faster , I have a decent first step but it could be much better and being a slasher I need that to compete in div 1.
* Running lines will help that.... not full court.. but more of F/T line to end line.... free throw lane line side to side... touching each line as you get to it.... 20-30 seconds at a time with many reps.

7. I'm a good ft shooter . Shoot them at about 85 - 90 %
* Keep working on that.

I don't do many quickness drills because I don't exactly now how to work on first step and quickness up and down the court other than skipping rope .

* Running lines will help that.... not full court.. but more of F/T line to end line.... free throw lane line side to side... touching each line as you get to it.... 20-30 seconds at a time with many reps. Jump rope a lot too.

Thoughts now?

Ok sweet coach . this is all good but now the problem is applying it , i dont know where i can put it in my schedule you get me ??? Like when to do it and so .

Running lines is suicides yes??? and also you want me to run them starting on the ft line .

And i didn't understand running from lane line .

P.s i played the first game of the season last night . I played for 4.26mins , i shot 1/3 from the field , 0 turnovers and one offensive rebound . My only problem thats stopping me from getting game time is all above the neck . its all mental

** Run from end line to NEAR free throw line and back touching each line as you do this. (thats only a 1/4 of the court)

And i didn't understand running from lane line

I was referring to the free throw lane lines... the lines from the end line to the free throw line where the players line up during free throws. Shuffle from side to side and touch the lines.

Clearer?

As you look at the things we are talking about.... work each part of your game into your schedule... ONLY when it fits in.... you might not be able to do this every day... only you know how much time you have available.
