I run a motion offense 5th and 6th graders. I have been trying to run some rotations out of a 1-3-1 set. I'm trying to teach my center to screen the pressure we're getting at 1\2 ct. We have a game in a couple of weeks against a team that runs a box and one and I am looking for ideas on how to open them up for drives to the basket. I have two real good guards that can take it inside. Any ideas from the coaches would be greatly appreciated.

I coach a 5th grade boys team and this weekend the team we played tried to run a box and 1 guarding our point guard man to man. We were able to get them out of the box and 1 by running picks for our point guard. We would end up in 5 on 4 situations which had them switch back to their 1-2-2 zone they ran most of the game. If you run a motion offense, the box and 1 will be difficult for them to stay with as the man that is guarded man 2 man can just keep running off screens with and without the ball.

Pretty sad that they are playing zones at that age... let alone a junk zone.

Depending on the level you are coaching, you can always use the skip pass. Screen the bottom of the box and put your other strong guard on weak side corner and have him attack after the skip pass. You can't cover everything is a box and 1 defense. Rotate or flash players middle and screen the chaser or zone as much as possible.

What is a good defense to run against a 1-3-1 offense. The middle school age boys team I coach is in our leagues semi finals Thursday night and trying to decide how to defend it. They usually pass the ball to the wing and the pg swings all the way around the baseline to the corner and when he gets the ball in the corner the middle guy in the 1-3-1 offense slides to the low block and opposite wing cuts to the lane. they are very deliberate with it and take there time running trying to lull the defense to sleep and pull everybody high. Thinking about going man to man on it so they have to hurry their offense and get them out of rhythm. What does everybody think? They also run a half court 1-3-1 trap on defense where they pick you up right at the half court line. I have some ideas but would love any suggestions you all might have.
