Does anyone have any training tips to get post player attacking a 3pt shooter? I've always heard you don't have to block every shot, but make them think you are. If you know you can't get to shooter, do you early jump and land in front of shooter or do you run without jumping and go just beside shooter? (Hope that makes sense) Daughters team play a step outside of paint. Most take a big step in shooters direction and stop knowing they can't get there. Doing this pretty much give shooter a free open shot with no defense attack and allows offensive players get inside for rebound. My biggest issue isn't really the offense rebounding, but the uncontested shooter. She just started practicing a quick first step, but after that first step do you jump/run? Anyone have any advise or training tips? Thanks,

Here's how I teach close outs:

https://www.breakthroughbasketball.com/defense/keys-close-outs.html

We need jump. We move on the flight of the ball to contest and get in the face of all shooters. If you get close enough you can put your hand on the ball to stop the shot. We always want our kids to use a good close and and "stay down"... do not leave your feet so you can deter the shot and also take away the dribble drive.
