I coach a 3rd grade Boy's team. I have a few players that are good dribblers. However, the have the tendency to carry the ball when they start going too fast. It normally happens when they are changing direction and trying to beat their defender to the basket. Any suggestions on how to reduce this before it becomes a bad habit. Thanks.

Usually when you are dribbling fast you will push the ball out further in front of you... but IF they are out of control then need to slow down a little bit... tough gig with kids that age.... our rule of thumb was, the closer the defender the lower the dribble....... and if you are on a power / speed dribble, get the ball further out in front of you. Hope this helps a little.
