Would the string spacing drill be a good starting place for teaching 3rd graders offense?

There are many good ways to start teaching offense to young kids. I think dribble-at is as good as anything. The best thing is you start teaching the most important concept first... spacing. Players start to realize... "oh this player dribbled toward me and and now we're close together --- I need to move to create some space!"

It will definitely take a while to transfer to games but everything takes a while with 3rd graders. Teaching spacing is a great place to start. After that I might teach them to pass and move (ex: could be cutting to the basket). Then players fill on perimeter (replace the cutter) to improve spacing.

After that, get open when you are one pass away by moving immediately -- cutting or whatever. Just get open. For me everything goes back to spacing and ball movement. This is even true for our high school kids. So that is what you spend the most time emphasizing.
