I'm not sure what offense you are running... but spacing is always important... put down some Xs on the floor with tape and run your offense... tell them - that is the general area for you to go do after your cut. (not exactly to a spot since a defender might be there - but to an area that is open.
Break your offense down to a series of cuts and run drills to emphasize them... do this until they get idea of what to do and how to do it.

Here are some drills that really help with offensive spacing.

Basic spacing drill:

Advanced spacing drill:

Also, keep it simple... pass to the open person and cut to the open spot. Basketball really is simple. There is no right or wrong cut when it comes to motion offense. If your cut or screen doesn't work, try something else. They key is to keep moving and keep spacing (which can be taught).
