How To Easily Fix Shot Selection Problems and 20+ Shooting Drills

Here is a note from our recent podcast on the Jim Huber show with Coach Mike Neighbors of the University of Washington.

Coach Neighbors provides a brilliant insight how to end all issues with shot selection.

"I have a catalog of 25 drills. Each week we use 5 drills, we put a time and a score for each one of the drills. Every Monday you have that week to obtain those scores in the 5 drills.

It has to be done outside of practice. You can come in on your own and you have to be in a presence of a coach or teammate.

If you achieve the 5 scores then the next week I will not say anything to you about shot selection. You can shoot it whenever you want to.

What I found out is the kids that want to do it are in the gym a bunch. The players that don’t do this don’t argue about the shots they aren’t getting during the games.

The best thing it does is help our team understand why these players get set plays called for them when we need a basket or why actions called for for them out of timeouts. I have not had a conversation about shot selection since the 3 years we been doing it."
