Who is Stephen Carter?

 

Coach Stephen Carter's journey into the role of Head Coach for the Women’s basketball program at Colorado Northwestern Community College marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the team.

Carter's coaching trajectory encompasses a rich and diverse background, demonstrating his commitment to player development and success. Prior to his current role, he spent the past two seasons at the Junior College level at GCC in Arizona, initially serving as an assistant coach before earning the promotion to Head Women’s Basketball Coach. His tenure at the NJCAA level solidified his coaching prowess and prepared him for the challenges and triumphs of leading a collegiate program.

Before his stint in the junior college arena, Coach Carter dedicated three years as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at the Division II level. His 2018-2019 role at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina saw him actively involved in the recruiting process, both locally and nationally. Carter played a key role in player development, focusing particularly on the post player position. Subsequently, he spent two years at Upper Iowa University, contributing to player development for post players and providing strategic insights through player scouting reports and game planning.

Coach Carter's coaching journey began in Arizona, where he held various roles at Sandra Day O’ Connor High School and Desert Edge High School. His experience as a Head Junior Varsity Coach, Varsity Assistant, and Associate Head Coach at the high school level laid the foundation for his passion for coaching in the women’s game.

Before venturing into coaching, Carter honed his understanding of the game through player development at the Snow Valley Basketball School in Iowa. Since 2013, he has served as the Skill Development Director and Lead Clinician, contributing significantly to the growth of aspiring basketball players. In 2019, he expanded his influence by joining Breakthrough Basketball as a Camp Advisor and Lead Clinician.

Coach Carter recently embarked on a new chapter in his life as he married his beautiful wife, Emily Carter, a Clinical Mental Health Therapist. As he takes the reins of the CNCC Women’s basketball program, Coach Stephen Carter brings not only a wealth of coaching expertise but also a genuine passion for developing players on and off the court. The Spartans can anticipate a season under his guidance that is marked by strategic planning, player growth, and a dedication to excellence
