Lead Instructor - Reef Mulkey

Coach Reef’s passion for sports began as a scholar-athlete in New Jersey, where he was a three-sport performer in basketball, cross country, and track-and-field. His love for basketball at Egg Harbor Twp. High School (2003-2007), where he was team captain and awarded MVP honors. He then went on to Jefferson College to play basketball. Taking a non-linear path, Coach Reef then transferred to Shasta College to pursue competition in cross country. He was awarded Most Inspirational by the Coaching staff.

Coach Reef’s true love, though, was always basketball, leading him to play professional tournaments in Europe. His experience playing EuroBasket in Valencia, Espana in 2019 solidified his commitment to the game and inspired his aspirations to be a full-time coach.

Having coached basketball camps since the age of 15, Coach Reef has over 20 years of experience teaching the next generation of players. He has worked for Nike Basketball, the Philadelphia 76ers, Monmouth University, and has been a consistent presence working for Breakthrough Basketball since 2018.

Currently residing in Denver, Colorado, he is the Head Coach of the Girls Varsity team at Addenbrooke Academy, where he led the team from an unranked position to league champions, a more competitive schedule from 2A to 3A, and a top 10 Colorado 3A state ranking. His team’s efforts earned him Coach of the Year (2023-24).

These accolades aside, Coach Reef takes the most pride in his development of his athletes. He coached a PG to league MVP in just his first season at Addenbrooke (CO) in 2023-24 and has drawn recruiting attention to players of various skill profiles and backgrounds.

During the Spring and Summer, he coaches Boys Club Basketball for PLUTO Prospects, based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He began this position in 2020 and has had major success with 2 MAYB National Qualifying teams in 2021 and 2022. Two of his players from the 2024 17U team received College offers.

Coach Reef is a USA Basketball Gold Coaching Licensed, a Certified Personal Trainer, and a Licensed Security Guard. He believes in pushing and motivating others to help them achieve their goals with a positive and potential-reaching approach.
