Lead Instructor - Makana Stone
Makana Stone brings a unique combination of professional playing experience, player development expertise, and leadership training to the court. Currently serving as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Fundraising Coordinator at Walla Walla University, Makana is passionate about helping athletes grow both as basketball players and as people.
A former professional basketball player in Norway and the Netherlands, Makana has coached and mentored athletes of all ages internationally while building a strong reputation for developing confidence, basketball IQ, leadership, and athletic performance. She previously co-founded Essentials to Mastery (E.T.M. Basketball), a training organization focused on mindset, athleticism, leadership, and holistic athlete development.
Throughout her coaching career, Makana has led youth programs, middle school teams, leadership academies, camps, and skill development sessions while emphasizing hard work, growth mindset, communication, and accountability. Her international coaching experience includes working with youth teams in Norway, serving as a youth outreach coordinator with the Leicester Riders in England, and mentoring young female athletes through leadership-based basketball programs.
Makana’s coaching philosophy centers around using basketball as a tool to teach life skills, empower athletes, and create a positive, competitive environment where players can thrive on and off the court.
