Who is Joel Hueser?


Coach Joel Hueser earned his degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, where he was a member of the Loper Basketball team from 1984 to 1988. He began his coaching career in Kansas as the boys' head varsity and junior high coach at Mankato High School.

After one year, he returned to Nebraska and took over as the boys' head varsity coach at McCook High School, leading the program for 13 years. Under his leadership, McCook qualified for the state tournament five times, finishing as the runner-up in 2000.

In 2003, Coach Hueser was hired as the boys' head varsity coach at Papillion-LaVista South High School, where he continues to lead the program. His teams have now qualified for the state tournament five times, winning the Class A State Championship in 2025. In addition to coaching basketball, he teaches in the Physical Education department.
