Coach Emma Sterkel joined the Minot State women’s basketball program as an assistant coach in the summer of 2024.
Before arriving at Minot State, Sterkel spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Chadron State in Nebraska. Prior to that, she served as a graduate assistant at Briar Cliff University (Iowa), where she also led the Chargers’ junior varsity team as head coach.
A standout player at Regis University (Colo.), Sterkel was a two-year team captain and earned RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll honors. She finished her career ranked 15th in program history with 121 made 3-pointers. She completed her playing career as a graduate student at Briar Cliff, helping lead the Chargers to the 2021-22 NAIA National Tournament before transitioning to the coaching staff.
Sterkel averaged 5.9 points per game and shot 32.8 percent from beyond the arc over her collegiate career.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Regis (2021) and earned dual Master’s degrees in Management Leadership and Sports Management from Briar Cliff in 2023.
In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Sterkel is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and has coached youth AAU travel teams.
