Topic:  Attacking the zone defense and zone buzzer beaters.

Question:
I am a basketball coach for 11-12 years old and the 13-14 years old. I coach for over 10 years now 5 as an assistant and 6 as a head coach. My question for you is how can I attack the zone defense and how can I hit the winning game shot at the final buzzer?

Answer:
For end of game buzzer beaters against the zone, you can do a couple things...

- You can run this zone basketball play that was just published in our newsletter. It will almost always get you a wide open 3 point shot in the corner or an open shot in the low post.

- You can also run a variation of that play with a simple shallow cut. It's really simple but effective, especially against the 2-3 zone. I like to use this play at the end of the quarter or game.

You can also check out the book Attacking Zone Defenses by John Kresse.

It takes a little effort to follow and understand the plays in the book, but I can tell you it's a great zone offense book. It has plays for all types of zones (2-3, 1-3-1, etc) and has good offenses for all type of zones. I particularly like the Continuity BC offense discussed in the book because it works against almost all types of zones.

We're also going to releasing a new PDF report with the Top 10 End of Game Basketball Plays of All Time. It should be ready very soon and we'll notify all of our newsletter subscribers when it's ready.

Hope this helps.

Hi, just stumbled across your comment about the"BC" zone offense. I am actually the one who made up this offense (john kresse did give me credit in hi book which was nice, and he named the offense after the school where i was the head coach - brookland-cayce HS, hence BC.) I made this offense up in 1982, it's nice to see it still has legs 28 years since i left coaching.

Coach Beam, thank you for the post and nice work on the offense!

If you ever want to submit anything on the offense, let us know. I'm sure our newsletter subscribers would really like it.

this question is a far reach, but if a player threw the ball high at the buzzer and the ball hit the floor first and then went in, would it be counted.
