Louisville Game Winner

Summary:

I saw Louisville run this play recently and win the game in an amazing come back against Marquette. This is an excellent end of game play that will often get you a lay up or a shot from your best player. You can see Louisville run this play and win the game at the 3:40 mark of this video:

Personnel:

- Player 1 should be a good ballhandler and shooter.
- Player 2 should be your best scorer off the dribble.
- Player 3 good shooter.
- Player 4 good rebounder and finisher near the basket.
- Player 5 good screener and rebounder.

Instructions

  • Your best player (#2) should start fairly low and set a short screen for 4 so you can enter the ball on the wing.
  • Player 5 and 3 should cut into position as the ball is entered to the wing.
  • Player 2 aggressively comes to get the ball for a hand off.
  • Player 5 comes up to set a ball screen for Player 2.
  • Player 5 sets the ball screen and Player 2 must very aggressively attack and use the screen.
  • Player 4 dives to the basket.
  • Player 1 and 3 space out and get ready to catch and shoot.
  • Player 2 should attack and score or hit the open player. Quite often, player 4 will be wide open under the basket because so much attention is paid to Player 2 coming off the screen. Players 1 and 3 could also be open depending on how the defense helps. The key is for Player 2 to attack aggressively and make a good decision.
  • Player 5 should be rolling towards the basket looking for the put back rebound.

The play works great if you have a "go-to scorer" because everyone is looking to stop him/her. Great misdirection.

If Marquette didn't trap all handoffs/ball screens...this play would not have worked...poor spacing if there is not a trap.

This is simple yet effective! I can''''t wait to install this with my middle school team.
