Summary:
Playing against a defense that is very aggresive can lead to backdoors and cuts off of screens. We use this if we are pressured on each pass and shooters are guarded closely. This can also help get your players to the line if they are struggling to get baskets to fall.
Personnel:
This can be run with any personnel, we keep a post player at the free throw line to make screens and draw a shot blocker out of the lane.
Instructions
- Set up in a 4 out 1 in design, bring the post player up to the free throw line, prefer the nail.
- the two wings position themselves at free throw line extended
- two guards top of the arch splitting court in half
- this play can be run both directions, use the strengths of your players.
- guard 1 will dribble to their side and immediately look for the back door by 4
- 4 needs to make a good v cut to setup back door. this is first scoring opportunity.
- may work twice but the defense will learn quickly, so now look for scoring opportunity 2
- 4 man will look for the pass from 1 when making V-cut
- 1 will pass then use screen from 5 and basket cut looking for a lob from 4 scoring opportunity 2
- If lob is not there 1 will turn and fill 3 spot to keep the lane open
- 2 will basket cut using a screen from 5 4 will look to pass to 2 on the cut. scoring opportunity 3
- 3 will go to top of key to balance floor and v-cut to get open for ball reversal
- 4 will then revese ball and basket cut to postup on opposite block
- 3 must pass quickly to get defense to shift and draw helping defense out of lane
- 1 will take the pass and look for 4 posting up scoring opportunity 4
- when 1 looks for 4 to postup 5 sets a down screen for 2
- 2 must set up the screen with a jab into the lane. then 2 cuts to top of key off of screen from 5 and 3
- 1 then can pass to 2 off of a double screen for three. scoring opportunity 5
- 5man and 4 man are in position for rebounds 1 will fade to the top of key to protect from a long rebound transition play.
Additional Comments:
can also add a pick and roll with 3 and 2 if the three point isn't there. but I doubt you'll have to got that far, to find a scoring opportunity. Couple times the defense will shrink to the lane and the jump shot will be open, or you will be at the line shooting 20 free throws a game.
