Categories: Transition
Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

This simple drill teaches each player how to run a fast break from each position.

Instructions

  • Have all the players line up one behind another with one player on the court and the rest ready to run the lane in single file along the baseline.
  • Start with all players running the 2 lane.
  • Start the players on the opposite side of the court and have them get into the 2 lane by halfcourt.
  • Make sure they are looking over their inside shoulder for the pass.
  • On the way back down the court, have everyone line up under the basket along the baseline with the first player under the basket and simulate what the 3 position would do on a fastbreak.
  • Make sure they get into their lane by half court.
  • Now get the first player in line in the lane and run the 4 lane, with each player running the 4 lane in quick succession.
  • Have players look over their shoulder looking for the basketball.
  • After they make their sprint down the 4 lane, they should come ball side and look for a pass in the post.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Every player needs to know how the other positions run the court on a fast break.
  • Players should sprint at game speed in this drill.
