What if you've never played before and you want to try out for the varsity team?

That would be a tall order. Do you mean that you never played any organized ball? OR not at the high school level? Or NEVER at all? Is this a high school team?

no ive never played organized ball just sloppy ball with a couple friends ,it is a high school team and its my jr. year so im hoping to get the position of varsity point guard.

Well, I don't want to rain on your parade.... BUT, unless you have a lot of talent, you are going to be in for a long haul...... so do this.... go to open gyms and see what kind of talent is there.... pit yourself against the better players... find out where you stand... get in the best shape of your life and then go to tryouts.

Skills necessary:

Handle the ball with both hands
See the court and deliver the ball without turning it over
Run the offense
Be able to drive to the basket and shoot, dump it to a post man or kick it out for a 3
Good short range shooter
Be able to hit the 3
GREAT free throw shooter
Be able to play SHUT DOWN DEFENSE
