Anyone use this in their conditioning programs? I was wondering if there are any basketball specific plyos that anyone is using that they care to share.

We just started using plyos at this weekends practice. I'm not totally familiar with them, so I am going light until I am confident in what we are doing. I don't want to see anyone get hurt during conditioning

I like to follow Vern Gambetta's progression for jumping.

Some things to consider:

1. Training Age. How long have they been training for? STart with the basics of learning how to land, then how to jump. For younger ages, I like to include many low-intensity jumping exercises.

2. How much basketball are the kids playing? IF they are playing a lot of basketball, plyo training may do more harm than good. During season, I would do one light workout per week.

3. Avoid depth jumps at first. Jumping off of a high box, then exploding up in there is for extremely advanced athletes that typically need to shock the system to improve.

I also like to put the athletes through a low-intensity jumping warm up to get ready for the medium to high intensity exercises. You can view a jump rope training example here:

HEre is another example:

Towards the end, there are some more advanced exercises that you may want to save for later. But as you can see, they are not focusing on explosive jumps but getting the body accustomed to jumping and landing from different positions which happens a lot in the game of basketball.
